You have quite an intriguing character so far, I'm looking forward to seeing more. 

The magic is a new spin on an old classic that has its built-in limits, which is very good for character development. 

I don't have many pointers yet, but when you get the history and the rest of it in line, I'll be glad to put forth my two cents.
