In that case, what is your stance on Nanban technologies, such as arquebuses shipped through Tanegashima, Portugese-tempered steel, or even Red Seal ships if that were to come into play somehow?
My stance is that the time period will determine my response to that question; if we're later on (Edo Period for example) then a samurai with a rifle/tempered steel would be less conspicuous than one in Sengoku Era Japan. If you're samurai happens to be from Kyushu or a major trading port, then having then wandering about learning to use/offering to teach the usage of this 'Dutch' technology would also be acceptable. Does that answer the question?
I may be interested , but I have a few questions Would our characters be at the level of just a nameless samurai in some diamyo's army or would we be at the elevated status of like baking a general at his war council kind of thing, also would this RP include a lot of war like conflicts?
I'd ask you to go back and take a look at what exactly musha shugyo is - our warriors will be on their own journeys of learning, we could well include a nameless Ronin without a clan, a samurai that has just decided to travel and train/improve, a founder/headmaster of a school who, for whatever reason, decided to leave and seek something out. We may possibly end up in the army of a daimyo, of course, but the likelihood of generalship is minimum at best. Secondly, if you don't know about Japanese history then I won't make you research, but constant errors will see you asked to leave the thread. If you're still interested, or for anyone else after I've posted this, prepare for a journey.
