They were having a sale on meats and onions, so he decided that tonight for dinner he shall be making a beef bowl. He also of course wanted to pair off his meal with a desert, so he figured he'll go for a cheese cake. Simple enough for him. Shopping didn't take long as the lines moved fast and Donny knew everything he wanted. With everything in his tote bags he headed home. But of course things weren't so simple. ”Y-Y-You…” As Donny walked through the neighborhood just enjoying the sights he ran into someone that made his nonexistent blood run cold. ”Me!” It was Shiki. She was eating a corn dog and seemed to have done some shopping herself. Her constantly, shark teeth smile made Donny visibly panicked. He had no idea what to do. ”Hmm? Yes? Is there something on my face?” Shiki said playfully as she did wipe some ketchup off her lips. She approached Donny which caused him to freeze up. ”Oh come on. I'm not a demon and I don't bite. Don't be so scared! You're hurting a young maiden’s feeling here…” Shiki said with faked sadness. Donny just stood there paralyzed with fear. Before he could react she was right in front of him and opened his eyes, revealing the blackness inside. It was only then that Donny stumbled backwards and fell onto his butt. ”Oho, so it's true. You were that black monster at the training ground! Good job with Point B by the way. Really smart idea there, my team ended up wasting so much resources trying to take it. Ah, if only we had that sort of power...” Donny’s lips trembled as he tried to get a word in. Shiki glanced at him as if actually wanting to hear what he had to say to defend himself. ”I-I told them to leave! N-N-N-No one had t-t-to get h-h-h-hurt!” this brought a smile to Shiki’s face as she stepped closer to Donny. Then she put a hand on his cheek so he had to look up to her, with the sun against her back. ”Did I say it was your fault? You really do lack confidence in yourself, Dark Matter~” Donny’s face turned to shock when she called him that name. Only Mina should know him by that name. ”People fear power, and you certainly are one of the most powerful students in your class. Ah, if only you realized that. Everyone else did and they're trying to rein you in. Teachers, students, even your friends will try to hold you back. Even you've blamed yourself for the power you've been given! Now that just isn't fair. It's not as if you choose to be like this.” Donny tried to get a word in but Shiki just didn't give him the chance. She squished his cheeks together like some sort of chicks before letting him fall back to the ground. ”So sad to think that your new friends are just taking advantage of you. Again.” Shiki snapped her fingers and something just went through Donny’s mind. A painful memory that he's been suppressing. It came all in a flash but he remembers it as if he was still there.
It was the fourth grade. Kids, as a general rule of thumb, were short. Practically knee high. But back when Donny was in fourth grade, he was only as tall as other children’s knees. This sad little slimeball was so small that kids would step all over him on accident. If he stayed in one place too long the janitor might accidentally try to mop him up. The only way people even knew he was underneath them was when he was carrying his backpack, and that was because it was bigger than he was. Kids didn't like Donny. He smelled, looked weird, and was bad at sports. He couldn't catch the ball without breaking it and he wasn't fast at all. He took too long to climb the jungle gyms. The only thing he was good for was getting lost balls that fall into the forest or onto the roof, because he could stick to walls. Even the. The teachers didn't allow it and he would get in trouble whenever they see him do it. It was miserable. The only classes he enjoyed was lunch. At lunch he felt great. Eating food was him feel good. While the teachers had to keep reminding Donny only to eat the food, and not the lunch trays and plates, eating lunch was the best part of the day. The lunch ladies were nice and always gave Donny lots of food. Sure it was usually vegetables, but Donny loved vegetables. But then again there was nothing Donny didn't love to eat. Whether it was Hamburger or coleslaw, pastor wedges or sauerkraut, Donny ate as much as he could get. One day while Donny was eating under a table (because he couldn't reach the chairs), a girl came up to him. Her name was Ringo. She was one of the cuter girls at school, one who all the teachers liked and the popular kids hung out with. But she was friends with some of the weirdos and losers too. Her quirk let her put things back together. Whenever something at school broke, like a toy or someone's clothes, she'd fix it. Donny wondered what she was doing here. “Hi Donny. Can I eat with you?” It was like a dream come true. The little black blob, without any eyes, ears, or anything that resembles a face, was practically grinning from ear to ear. ”Y-Y-Yeah! B-B-But do ya r-r-r-r-really wanna eat under da t-table?” Ringo shook her head and pointed outside. “We can eat outside on the hill.” Only good students got to eat outside. The ones with the best. Heavier and the best grade. Donny often got into trouble because of other kids and he was falling behind on math and geography, so he never got to sit outside. But those who did could sit out there and bring one friend. Donny never knew who Ringo normally brought outside, but today it would be him. The two didn't really talk much. Lunch was only thirty minutes, the first ten usually involved standing in the lunch line. It didn't help that Donny ate most of his lunch just walking outside. But Ringo was more than willing to share her food with Donny. Even when he accidentally ate her plate, she said it was okay! Donny was really happy. Best of all, Ringo said she wanted to eat with him again. The next few days, going to school wasn't as bad. Better even. Everyday Ringo would find Donny and they'd eat outside. The kids started eating with him too, they all shared his food with him which he loved, because he was always hungry. They talked to him and got to know him. At recess they let him play with them, even if he was still really bad at playing. But it was okay, they were really good and he was always able to get the balls they they throw over the fence or onto the rooftops. Some of them even helped him learn math more. They would walk to class and remind him the formulas and stuff. Those kids were nerds though, and my very strong. Fortunately Donny could easily carry their books. He may have been small, but Donny could carry an adult. One day after school, as Donny was heading home, one of the big kids stopped him. It was Dogo, one of the biggest and meanest kids in school. Everyone was afraid of him, even the teachers. He always ate alone, he never played at recess with others, and often had to use private tutors at school instead of being in class with the others. Donny knew his quirk too: Dogo could amplify and manipulate his voice however he wished. He could sound like one of the teachers or even roar like a dragon. Everyone remembers a time where a really huge dog got onto the playground, and Dogo scared it away by making his voice sound like machine guns. Donny was frozen in fear as Dogo approached. “Stay away from Ringo.” ”W-W-What?” “Stay away from Ringo. She's not your friend. She's lying to you.” Donny couldn't believe what he was hearing. Why and what was Ringo lying about? Donny couldn't think of anything important that she might be lying about, except maybe how to do some math problems. And why wouldn't she be his friend? She's been so nice to him for such a long time! In fact why should Donny even listen to Dogo? Everyone knew he was a big bully. Donny may have not been smart, but even he could understand jealousy. Not that he told any of this to Dogo. ”I… I-I don't believe you. You're lying!” Dogo loomed over Donny (which anyone could do easily) and glared at him. Even though Dogo’s eyes were shaded by his hat, they seek to glow menacingly. “If you know what's good for you, stay away from Ringo. If you don't believe me, go to the teacher’s table before you go to the lunch line tomorrow.” Dogo said quietly, barely above a whisper. That's right, Dogo was also really quite. But whenever he spoke up, it was always super loud. The next day Donny did as Dogo said. Leaving his book bag at class Donny went to the teacher’s table at the cafeteria. It was easy for him to sneak to them, what with being a small puddle of goo with lots of kids walking around. Donny wasn't sure what he was looking for when he spotted Ringo walking up. Hiding underneath a table he watched her. She went up to Mrs. Sonia, a stern but pretty teacher. And, as Donny remembered, Ringo’s mom. “Rin-chan, don't forget to eat your veggies.” “Mom, I don't like mushrooms… Why don't you ever let me make my own lunch?” “That's because I know if I let you, you'll only make juice and candy. Now go, lunch ends in twenty minutes.” Ringo sighed and left, meeting up with the rest of her friends. Donny shadowed them, unnoticed as always. She met with a bunch of the kids who usually eat outside and they started to take out their lunches and put food into a brown plastic bag. The food they always gave him was in a brown plastic bag… “Gross, bamboo sprouts. This stuff is super icky.” “Well at least you don't have to have cabbage all the time. I swear everything in my mom’s fridge is cabbage.” “Those teachers are so stupid! So what if we throw away our food? That's what you do with food you don't eat. At least we have our own trash can now.” “Ha ha, more like a pig. The only reason people let pigs live with them was so they could eat all the garbage.” “At least that guy is good for something. How'd you even get him to follow you Ringo?” Everyone, including Donny, looked at Ringo. She flipped her hair over her shoulder as she picked up an apple. “Easy. I gave him some food, and now he follows me like a puppy. All you have to do is be a little nice to him and he's your slave.” Ringo chuckled, as did the rest of her friends. Everyone except Donny.
By the time Donny looked up Shiki was gone. Getting to his feet Donny was in a daze. He wasn't sure what he was doing with himself anymore. Slowly he walked back towards the dorm. ”Food… Just gotta eat… Eat and forget…” Eventually Donny returned to the dorms. While normally most students would be excited about getting their own rooms, bunking with one of their fellow students, and other sort of block party stuff, Donny had specifically asked for his own room, even if it was a smaller one. He didn’t want people to see him in his true form and right now he felt like he needed the alone time. Figuring that most of the kids were either studying in their rooms or out Donny headed straight towards the kitchen. There was a community fridge that Donny could store his stuff in, at least he was pretty certain there was. But when Donny went to the kitchen he could see that there was already some people busy at work here. He needed the oven and stove, so he tried to leave before anyone noticed him. ”I’ll just have to set up my stuff in my room, I guess.”
