(His Mask) Costumed Personality: Bane is an individual whose behaviors and personality are very deserving of that moniker. This luchador is a cruel, wicked, and incredibly sadistic fighter. He is driven by the honor and thrill that is derived from the sheer spectacle of fighting. To most Bane can seem like nothing more than a predator which simply seeks to play with its food before enjoying carnage; this in many respects is true. However this interpretation is shallow and belies a bit of a 'warrior poet' nature present in Bane. Bane can espouse at length the virtues of strength, regardless of its field in or out of combat. Bane has a highly addictive personality and does not take to withdrawals or losing his 'pleasures' well. And of course, although it tends to not matter too much for a horrific monster such as Bane, he is very much unfamiliar with the ways of the world at large. In short this man is a maniacal, yet astute and scholarly marauder bent on causing carnage and shaping the world in a manner similar to how he was forged. Super abilities: -Skills: Luchador: "The Fight" - The Luchador, aka the Professional Wrestler of South America, is a skilled and mighty athlete. Depending on the alignment a luchador either works a more technical style with high-flying spots to win the affection of the crowd or use brutish strength mixed with devious scheming to conquer the opponent. Bane is a "Rudo", also known as a "Heel", which is a villainous alignment in wrestling. As such Bane's typical moveset revolves around more mat-based offense, instead of high rope spots, and utilizes more brawling and striking maneuvers as opposed to technical chain wrestling. This is not to say that Bane has not been trained to do the techniques of a more heroic luchador, he just prefers the striking moveset more. And of course, while he could "work" those strikes, aka simply making it look real instead of being real, he prefers working stiff and "shooting" on opponents; which essentially means he loves hurting people physically and will deviate from any bookie's plan for his own amusement. And unlike certain rudos he is less willing to use 'foreign objects' such as a barbed-wire baseball bat or guitar and just simply uses his own limbs to achieve victory. Luchador: "The Story" - Of course the art of lucha, and really with the art of professional wrestling regardless of your spot on the globe, is not just about the physicality demonstrated by the combatants it is about telling a convincing story. Professional Wrestling is also about the story being told in the ring; and Bane is no exception to that rule. In order to tell a proper story in the ring, a luchador must know how to "work properly" as to not hurt your fellow competitor, (which of course Bane does not do often as he is a sadistic bastard). They must have very convincing body language and facial expressions. Another must for a luchador to have is the ability to understand the emotions of a crowd so you can manipulate them for a proper response. Improvisational skills are needed in case flubs happen in the ring so you can create a new situation so they crowd doesn't pick up on the mistake in the show. And just as important, perhaps even more so than the actual wrestling prowess, is the ability to speak in order to get hated or beloved by the crowd. Bane is talented in all of these other necessary facets to be a true luchador. Modern-day Jaguar Warrior: "The Aztec Revival" - Bane is not only connected to his heritage by his prowess in the white mat jungle, he is also connected to his people in a tradition older than that of lucha libre. This is because Bane is a modern day version of the phenomena of the 'Jaguar Warrior'. The Jaguar Warrior of times of an Aztec Empire now long destroyed, were not only a highly trained infantry military force; they were an educated people as well. For Bane this means that he has been physically refined like a soldier would, is trained in the art of warfare and is familiar with all sorts of weapons and materials of the front line, he knows the routines and practices of a front line soldier, is proficient in utilizing military tactics with the specialty being a focus on infantry maneuvering. Apart from these physical and pragmatic abilities drilled into him; Bane has a classical education ie. a education based in study of literature, poetry, drama, philosophy, history, art and the languages. While he is familiar in a number of those fields his specialty in his academia is focused around the study of the Aztec Empire. -Powers: "Performance Enhancing" Drugs - Bane is powered by a strange cocktail of HGHs, PEDs, and 'Super Steroids', known colloquially under the name "Venom." The standard drug cocktail that Bane has inside of him takes several hours to fully immerse itself in the system, and it takes several hours afterwards in order to remove itself from the system. When these drugs are in the system it increases the strength, endurance, and the regenerative properties of the body in the user. The exact increase of these properties depends on the concentration of the particular drug cocktail ingested alongside the dosage being injected. Using Venom has been shown to cause manic behavior in users, with this effect being far more prominent in those suffering withdrawal. Other withdrawal symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and muscle aches. Superhuman Strength - Through the use of drugs Bane's strength is super-human; lifting cars or flipping them is child's game to him as strongmen are easily able to perform such feats. Bane has demonstrated at least on three occasions that he can lift a passenger aircraft and toss it a good distance. Without any drugs in the system Bane is the peak of humanity when it comes to strength. Superhuman Endurance - Through the use of drugs Bane's endurance is super-human. While some wrestlers are able to fight for perhaps an hour, Bane has been able to fight for a period of days without feeling much exhaustion. He also carries a resistance to toxins and is able to shrug them off. Besides that and more importantly, the drugs boost his body's tolerance to the wear and tear that'd come from his super-strength, this in turn makes his body much more durable to impact and makes him a very hard opponent to kill. In short he is a very tough man to put down through conventional fighting means. Without any drugs in the system Bane is the peak of humanity when it comes to endurance. Healing Factor - Through the use of drugs Bane has managed to achieve a bit of a healing factor. Bane's standard dosage allows him to recover deep cuts, internal wounds, and broken bones within a few minutes. Of course without any drugs in the system, Bane lacks any sort of increased regenerative properties other than what the body can do. -Gadgets: Drug Dispensing Collar and Canister Systems - Bane to this day continues to wear the metal prison collar he had shackled on him during his time in the Pena Dura Penitentiary. This collar has been modified to have a series of internal syringes that automatically inject themselves into Bane's neck and automatically give Bane a dosage after a certain amount of time has passed. This collar has sections for four tubes which connect to a set of twelve canisters. These tubes and canisters are reinforced in order to protect from physical damage; this is not to imply that these things cannot break but rather that attempting to break these tubes and canisters are a rather difficult task. Opening up the canisters involves twisting off the top lid which is attached to the tubing system that feeds into Bane's neck. Bane's Mask - This mask is a very important and serves as very powerful iconography for Bane. Besides the importance given to it by Bane and the culture of lucha, it does have a few other important features. The eyes of this mask can light up to a bright red which is very handy if a venue doesn't have power and it helps for giving Bane a spookier entrance. Beyond lighting up Bane is able to use his mask as essentially a pair of night vision goggles so that he can see in the dark and fight appropriately. And, oddly enough Bane's mask is as durable as the man himself; perhaps it was made of a highly experimental mesh, perhaps it is empowered by the sheer mystical force of lucha traditions. In any case the mask cannot seem to truly come apart and will not come apart until Bane is either dead in a literal or figurative sense. -Weapons: Bane IS the weapon. Civilian Occupation: Full-time Professional Villain Luchador; Hobbyist Academic of the Aztec Empire Biography--------- Character History/Origin: Pena Dura Penitentiary, it used to be regarded as a well guarded maximum facility prison that was tucked away in the isolate desert lands near the city of Juarez, Mexico. They operative word in that preceding sentence is used; Pena Dura now is a broken down and abandoned shell of what it used to be. This entire facility was brought down to its knees and received its killing blow from but a single man. Bane. Of course one needs background in order to understand how and why this prison came to be destroyed. To the citizens of Mexico, and the outside world in general, Pena Dura was nothing more than a simple maximum facility prison. However those walls hid a dark underbelly both in a figurative sense and a literal one. While the top portions of Pena Dura were a relatively normal looking prison; below this was a secretive set of spaces used for, well let us just use the euphemism of "research and development". Bankrolled primarily by a shadowy collective inside the Military Industrial Complex, and of course from less savory parts of the Mexican Government, this institution was build as a front to hide their devious project of creating an unstoppable mercenary group that would be on par with armies. To fulfill this project many children, some of who 'mysteriously vanished' from their homes some of who happened to just be orphans while others who were classified as 'dead', were shipped to Pena Dura to be put through the most grueling and extreme training of their lives. Bane was but one of these 300 children who were brought to Pena Dura. Of course at this point of time, Bane was just an assortment of numbers and letters to the various 'instructors' who placed these children through these tests. In order to help remove a sense of identity from these children further they were given identical masks in the hope that this would keep them from identifying as anything other than a future soldier to those who ran the project. Every day these children were trained mercilessly to become truly strong physically but also mentally. These experimental warriors were put through different routines, such as what to do if caught in gunfire, cardio workout through deadly obstacle courses, lifting weights until they could lift no more, alongside sleep deprivation done at random intervals, usually all the while being put through mental hardship by being forced to answer obscure and difficult problems during these physical exertions. It was not uncommon to see an instructor with a body-bag, or bags, removing those that failed. But despite ideals of dehumanization of the subject; these children, that lived from these tests, were allowed a one hour a day of 'free choice' in either physical or educational endeavors, which were monitored of course. When this hour came Bane found himself drawn to the culture of what he knew his people were; the Aztecs and the ways of Lucha. At the time the instructors did not worry about this, as Bane was a fine candidate and these subject matters tied into a culture of strength and that would be fitting in their ideal warrior. Of course in time it would be obvious to see how these seeds would germinate in the head of the young one who would become Bane. Years had past and many had died from these experiences. As these children grew into adolescents the tests were ramped up in their harshness. Throughout this entire ordeal there was one consistent, the individual who would grow up to be Bane went further beyond and grew stronger with each and every hellish trial. Out of the handful, for only five had made it to this near end, these instructors knew that Bane had hit a purer form of the zenith of human perfection than the others. And all the while Bane was tempering himself and biding his true nature. This shadowy military industrial complex blinded themselves with the light of the future, that they forgot the meaning of the past. On the other hand Bane knew it and embraced it. The mask they had given to this boy would become his symbol; for he knew that he had the blood of the Jaguar Warriors from ages past flowing through his veins, and the spirit of lucha ran through his very essence. The day eventually came when these five survivors were introduced to the final aspect of the test; could they survive and thrive with the addition of the drug cocktail they called "Venom"? One by one each of these men were injected with the drug and watched by the instructors to see what would happen. Four of these survivors crumbled under the strength of this drug and perished, but Bane had survived. He did more than survive; now he truly felt alive. With an intense bloodlust and a maniacal glee he slaughtered his way through Pena Dura, killing every single individual who was there and taking all of the Venom he could. After that gruesome feat of spectacular violence this formerly nameless and unmissed youth became Bane. Now a freed man; Bane made his way to Mexico City which held both the major promotions of Lucha Libre and the ruins of Tenochtitlan. Here he could properly research the culture that helped forged him, both from the ancient ruins of the Aztec capital that were long since built over, but also the secrets of Luchadors such as the Blue Demon, Azteca and Gory Guerrero. If he felt the urge to handicap himself to assure his might and technique was right and proper he could force swaths of luchadors to challenge a hindered version of himself. And of course there are other nearby militaristic bases fit for carnage, and probable robbing for necessary ingredients. While he hasn't been on the outside for that long already Bane can tell that the world world is weak, without hardship, disconnected from the might of the past, but it shall be restored through as much 'cruel love' as it takes.
