He was drawn to this town by its occult history, and has put on the guise of an involved community leader in order to hide his true motives. His ultimate goal is to fulfill the dead witch's spell so that occult power will rule the "insipid, ignorant plebeians" of the town. He has married into Valerie's family in order to lure the witch's bloodline back into the town, which he needs in order to complete the ritual. He takes a secret pride in that, but is disappointed with his step-daughter, who instead of fully applying her arcane blood, dedicates her time to rebellion and delinquency.
