Ascot Rider
Name: Ascot Rider Age: 19 Gender: Male Race: Hume Former Allegiance: Kujat Territory (Enslaved) Role: Engineer. Personality: Ascot is a person who cares for his family and friends, and hopes that his future teammates would become the latter, while as for the former, they had been left behind in bondage; he knows that their conditions had been eased when he attained the status of Herald, but he still fears for them. He has deep resentment for his Kujat Masters, but at the same time pities them for needing to oppress others to feel good about themselves (his perspective). All this comes from his life of slavery, a life that has left him psychologically scarred, but which he assures himself has made him stronger. Whether that was the case is up in the air, however; it might not be true and Ascot tries to ignore that fact. Physical Description: Ascot after attaining the status of Herald. Ascot is a tall, lean young man who had built up some muscle while growing up, but not much. Because he is often clad in protective suits and masks, his skin and face are pale, a sharp contrast to his dark hair and eyes. Overall, he can be considered conventionally handsome, and his youthfulness contributes to that. History: Ascot was born underground, to a family of Humes who had been slaves underground for generations, working as menial workers or lesser mechanics; people who repaired less important vehicles and systems as well as noncombat drones. Learning to work almost as soon as he could walk, Ascot realized he had two gifts; one was working with machines, another was hiding in plain sight in the underground warrens of the tunnel cities. He was also quick to learn, able to read the technical manuals, labels, and maps that were needed to work as mechanics more efficiently, as well as to operate repair drones. But in his heart was a yearning for...something. A world where he had a choice to follow orders by their own merits, not on the threat of brute force and punishment. A world in which he was not seen as a lesser being. A world where he was...free. This was encouraged by his father and mother, who taught him old songs and tales of unknown origin in their spare time. And so, he learned the concept of rebellion. When he turned 18, he was tasked to accompany an expeditionary force sent to Snowstone territory, to repair the trucks and noncombat drones that supplied them with food. As they encamped near the Snowstone border, Ascot saw his chance and hijacked a medical vessel/ambulance, driving it towards the enemy lines in an attempt to defect. Caught by surprise, it was not long before the Kujat expedition mobilized their light vehicles, and, after a high-speed chase, caught Ascot just as he was short of reaching his goal. Dragged back to the camp, it was decided to turn him into an example for the rest of the slaves; he was to be tortured to death in public, with the rest of the Hume slaves manning logistics being forced to watch. The next day was going to be his last. Humiliated, exhibited before his fellow slaves and the Kujat forces like a piece of meat, Ascot could only scream as he was flogged and whipped in the hot sun, before being soaked with ice-cold water and then struck with electric prods. This was only the first part of the torture, as his overseers then drew sharp knives and drills, driving him to the nadir of despair. Then, the Snowstone forces arrived, attacking with righteous fury as they cut through the Kujat expedition's ranks. And so, Ascot found rescue. The young man, still a boy in many ways, found it hard to adapt to life as a free man in Snowstone, but worked hard to do so anyway. Then word of the Lotus Mirage's rise arrived, and a messenger from Shirod came to Ascot with a message; he was eligible for the trials for Herald-dom and can apply if he so wished. This was given the thought it needed, and Ascot decided to participate, thanking the messenger for the news. After all, this was a chance to be greater than he was before, and a chance to change the Planet for the better. And even if it wasn't; shouldn't it be time for him to finally make his own choices?
