Griffin's life had never been an easy one. His sixteenth birthday was no different except that things went from bad to worse. At five am his father came into his room and pulled him out of his bed. He slowly climbed to his feet. He was used to his father's abuse. It had been happening since his mother's death when he was six. It was a fact he had learned to accept. "I see you go you mark." His father growled. Griffin looked down on his chest. There it was. Right over his heart. The mark looked like a book. His father took advantage of his distraction. Because he was noe six foot six and taller than his father the older man had to get the upper hand when he could. His father hit him with the belt. Griffin reacted out of instinct. He curled up into a ball to protect himself as much as he could.
