[@Lovejoy] There are a number of cold-weather plants that might be cultivated to provide food.  I imagine in a world where they'd have a huge advantage over plants that need warmer weather, they would evolve into a variety that could produce a decent amount of produce.  Tending such farms would be difficult, but not impossible.
