H I L D A

• The Breakfast University of Magic •
Hilda was shocked when she suddenly found herself under a midnight sky. The blue light dissipated, and before her stood the campus of the Breakfast University of Magic. She clenched the strap of the bag that held her spear and sheathed sword, and breathed, in and out. Hilda had never been so far from her family before, and her hesitant walking pace showed that. But in order not to look like a nervous wreck in front of the entire student body, Hilda distracted herself with other thoughts. The parting advice her siblings gave her immediately came to mind, and during most of the wait for the opening ceremony to begin, it was all Hilda was thinking about; Camilla pestered her to study hard, Burkhard told her to make lots of friends, Guntram said to exercise everyday, and Frauke, well. Frauke said that if anyone dared to start anything with Hilda, she should take her spear and pierce thirteen holes in each of their lungs. Hilda was sure that wasn't allowed. A cold shiver ran up Hilda's spine as she walked, the school map in her hand to guide her to the right place. Even in that giant fur trim coat and woollen turtleneck sweater of hers, Hilda could still feel the midnight breeze nipping at her exposed fingertips. She quickened her pace (almost falling over another student as a result, in which she gave the person an apologetic wave) in hopes she could at least warm herself up a little. When she arrived a bit earlier than needed, Hilda just quietly waited. What else could she do other than that? Setting her suitcases aside, Hilda stood against a wall and just stayed there. For some reason, Hilda felt the atmosphere around her become very, very awkward. She took this time to glance around at the other students and the huge buildings that surrounded them. Hilda was really being hurled out of her comfort zone this year. So many faces she didn't know, completely new locations to get used to, she had never experienced such things all at once before. But the unsettling feeling of an unfamiliar environment brought encouragement for discovery and new beginnings. Hilda couldn't deny the the fluttering of excited butterflies in her stomach. Yet still, the cold bothered her. No one else seemed to be wearing jackets as thick as hers, and Hilda couldn't help but think why. Some of the students that walked past carried coffee flasks in their hands, and one boy that stood a few metres away seemed to be downing a gloriously warm drink to ward of the supposed cold weather. Hilda couldn't help but longingly stare at his cup of coffee, her fingers tangling up impatiently as she continued to wait for the opening ceremony to begin. Oh, what she would do for a cup of hot coffee right now.
