The Setting In the near future (2088) the world is overrun by spider-like monsters known as Pests. These aren't like Eight Legged freaks. Though they can be as big as a medium sized dog, they in addition have many eyes and tentacles coming out where their mouths would be. Nobody quite knows where they came from or why, but studies have shown their DNA has little match to an actual spider, or any other creature known to man. In response to this pandemic a mercenary company has arose, doing business with governments all over the world to help combat this Pest invasion. Maniacles Corporation is equipped with weapons and armor only thought of in sci fi movies and xbox games. In addition to this, they have also managed to profit off their sales of very cheap weapons and ammo, allowing the average citizen to arm and defend themselves during the Pest infestation. The Plot You are a relatively new Maniacles recruit, with training either with Maniacles or otherwise. After perhaps a few small assignments, you are ready for a major project to which the higher ups in corporate office have assigned you. Maniacles has made contact with a secluded, self sustaining society somewhere in Antarctica who has managed to avoid the Pest problem entirely. While studies have shown Pests are not bugged to much by extreme weather, Pests seem to completely avoid this place. But there is more to the story. The people in this small city in this freezing region regularly practice the art of sorcery. You don't believe it at first, but when you get to the place you realize all the claims by your higher ups were true. Your mission is to keep the peace as the scientists research the abilities of the people in this strange town. At times you may even be asked to assist with the research. The Town Its quite hard to believe such a place exists in Antarctica of all places. Considering the only other dwellings permitted to be here are scientific research stations and temporary living spaces for tourists, mercenaries are shocked when they see a decent small town with paved roads. Despite the size of the town there are all the fixings of any other functioning town, such as a hospital, a town hall, a couple bars, and schools including an academy for magic study. This is the only such place in Antarctica, and only Maniacles knows about it, but they don't know how long its been around, though the locals will claim its relatively new. Due to the environment, food and other supplies are delivered here, but from where? Technological Advancements The year is 2088, when many would have expected there would be flying cars, a cure for cancer, and intergalactic trade with extra terrestrials, most of the actual new technology came about due to Maniacles Corporation. It was them who discovered the laser rifle, the plasma sprayer, and the shiny suits of power armor you sometimes see them in. They transport cargo and men in armored hover-ships. Maniacles has even invented drugs to enhance a persons strength, speed, durability, and healing rate for short periods of time. But the world looks nothing like the Jetsons. Since the outbreak of Pests, things have...stagnated, but changed. People still go about their business, working their jobs, practicing their hobbies, texting on their smart phones, but armed to the teeth for who knows what Pest will attack next?
