1. You target the person, not the position 2. You do so with the intent to mock or belittle that person and/or to damage their reputation 3. You avoid taking a position that can be criticized 4. You hide behind humor or subtlety so that you can deny your actions when/if called out on it The rest of us manage to discuss politics without sinking to those depths despite the fact that we often vehemently disagree and may at times discuss emotionally evocative issues that we feel strongly about. We are certainly not perfect-- but we don't sink this low. Your behavior is completely uncalled for.
This is exactly right, when discussing politics it is meant to be a logical argument without personal attacks and the use of reputable sources if you are not expressing an opinion. When one begins to attack someone the entire conversations devolves into something very similar to monkeys throwing their own feces at a wall. It gets nothing done and causes a thread where people who are simply trying to discuss an already 'sensitive' topic to be shut down... which in turn seems to cause people to be angry even when they can simply make another topic. Rather than wasting time insulting varying people with differing opinions, why not stay on topics being discussed? Why not avoid publicly bashing people just because they do not agree with you or fit your opinions on how people are/should be. I would hate for this to be shut down because people can't remain civil.
