There's actually no such rank as "Officer." There's quite a few ranks among commissioned officers, and there's a hierarchy among them just like among lower ranked grunts and the like. You didn't list your rank, so I assume it's lower.

You can take examples straight from the air force- colonels, captains, majors and the like all fly, even though they're all technically officers, there's still one wing leaders and commanders and such.
