[@shylarah]The vibe that I wanted Indira to give off when I wrote her profile was like, a kind of selfish but well-meaning woman who cares about her legacy and research above all else. She was an Omestrian slave, and after becoming an Inquisitor and discovering an entirely new field of magical study, the last thing she wants to do is be reminded of her really shitty and painful past. She might be a folk hero who young Varyans have raised as their great hope, but in actuality, she doesn't really care about the Omestrians who are lesser off than her, and certainly doesn't want to be the rallying point for some revolution. Doing so would only interfere with her work. She does have a love for the Omestrian culture of the past and is well-versed in their legends, but history is history. The Tainted Lord lost the battle, and so the world needed to move on. She certainly has. When it comes to Omestrian students, she wants them not to embrace their heritage but to hide it, since this is the only way she feels they'll succeed in a largely anti-Omestrian society. For Viveca and Oren, whom she was directly responsible for, she spent many years teaching them how to fit in. But for Ziotea, a student who wasn't in her class, Indira wouldn't have paid her any mind as an Omestrian whatsoever beyond feeling sorry for her to a certain extent. She would have taken an interest in Ziotea's gift of being able to sense and draw ether (purely from an academic perspective), but when seeing how raw her abilities were, and upon talking to her and getting a sense for her closed-off and somewhat hostile personality, Indira would quickly pick up some warning signs. "This girl is certainly talented but no way in hell is she going to be my heir." So yeah, I think Ziotea has every right to hate her, since she'd definitely pick up on this. As for Ziotea being a part of the Circle at one point, I think this makes sense. Although, if she knew about Indira's indifference toward her, would she had applied in the first place? Or maybe she realized what kind of person Indira really was after being accepted into the Circle. Maybe Galahad and Ragnar were also in it, but all three probably flunked out early and decided to focus their efforts on other fields.
