Consider: your secondary character may actually be your main character. Alternatively, you could focus on the relationships of the main character and how they influence the main's development.

I realised my current main character is sort of boring once I started writing him, though I should've seen it coming sooner. Once I start to focus on the bad influences of his friends and how he becomes a bad influence himself, that will hopefully start to clear up.

[@Altered Tundra] Can't relate to your MC vibes, though, because my current one is an anxious mess who flinches when spoken to. His occupation is sewage inspector and his friends bring him along as a mascot because they pity him.
