This, I'll give you a reason for. We'll say Argente had something that Cauldron wanted, and they needed him out of the way to get it. They saw you and offered a chance for revenge - free of charge. The catch was that you'd owe them a number of favours in return. That way they kill several birds with one stone. They can try out an experimental formula, they can get rid of Argente and they can have yet another parahuman indebted to them.
