They found their place among shinobi by presenting themselves with a strong mastery of jutsu, but above all, an even stronger sense and understanding of shinobi politics. While the Hanamari were renowned as shinobi, they were far more known as people with a penchant for politics. It seemed the Hanamari always knew exactly when to strike, when to make peace, and when to ignore someone. They kept accurate lists of all the known clans, their allies and enemies, and made sure to play these out against each other. However, that is not to say they are without bad sides. The Hanamari are responsible for the massacre of the Oriwara clan, a clan of shinobi that were renowned primarily for their combination of swordplay with genjutsu. The Oriwara had, mistakenly, assassinated one of the Hanamari and offered payment for the loss of a clanmember. Rather than take this, as the Oriwara had owed up to their mistake in a noble manner, as was becoming of a noble clan, the Hanamari clan decimated the Oriwara clan, which was small in comparison. Although this event has been forgotten by (most) of the clans in the known world, it is a memory that lives on in the annals of Hanamari bookkeeping. Not because it was a bad thing, and they feel a responsibility to bear the burden of it, but because to the Hanamari clan it is a sharp reminder that sometimes, the best option was forgiveness. Other times, it is a swift cut and a gashing wound.

Shinobi Godaikoku
Five Great Shinobi Countries
During the establishment of the five great shinobi countries, the Hanamari clan found a home in Konohagakure, that contained a lot of likeminded clans such as the four noble clans of Konoha - the Nara, Akimichi and Yamanaka, alongside the Sarutobi's. Furthermore, the addition of the Uchiha and Hyuga, who were both clans with a strong diplomatic ability as well as the Senju, who had feuded with the Uchiha yet come to a diplomatic arrangemenent was a welcome addition. The Hanamari retreated to the back of Konohagakure and remained unbothered by the other clans. During this time, Danzou and Shima Hanamari were in control of the clan and employed a strict isolationist policy while the clan gathered it's strength during the building of the village. They sectioned off one part of the forest around Konohagakure and established their main compound there, but in due time migrated the military part of the clan into Konohagakure itself, and established a secondary compound there. The civilians of the clan were left behind in the forest compound, and established a warehouse to support their clan's economy. Around this time, the civilians of the clan began a logging and woodcrafting industry, becoming quite expert at maintaining the forest while using it's resources for economical benefit. For this purpose, a battalion of fifty Hanamari shinobi were provided - run of the mill shinobi between the age of eighteen and fifty with varying ranks. Additionally, a complementary force of twelve genin between the age of twelve and eighteen was provided to perform supporting missions, although that mission directive quickly fell in the water as gaps started appearing in Konohagakures war efforts, and they needed people to fill it. Danzou and Shima were among the soldiers sent forwards, leading by example. They quickly earned various nicknames among the enemies of Konohagakure, the most memorable of which being 'Konoha's Golden Couple' in reference to their blonde hair. They were renowned for their capabilities with ninjutsu, and had a good synergy going. However, all good things must come to an end. It was during a charge on the lines of Iwagakure that things went wrong, and both Danzou and Shima found their match at the behest of a misguided and miscommunicated artillery barrage of fire and earth jutsu being fired from the Konoha lines. They were caught in the friendly fire and both died, on the spot. It could be said by many Konohagakure nin that the Iwagakure shinobi fighting under Seijuro were brutes and savages, but the opposite was true on this occasion. Whether it was a strange attempt at reconciliation or some form of understanding and brotherhood, the Iwagakure shinobi recovered the bodies of the Golden Couple and organized a burial for them, erecting a small shrine that has been forgotten during the ages. Never the less, the memory stands with the Hanamari, and they remember this act of kindness still to this day, sending a large bouquet of flowers every year on the day of death to Iwagakure as a thanks for their actions that day. It was during these times that a 17 year old shinobi by the name of Higōhō made his entrée into the Hanamari clan, proving his worth during a mission in which they were tasked with taking down one of Iwagakure's explosive corps' headquarters. The grand operation was about to fail, with half the team being killed before even reaching the compound. Someone had tipped them off, it seemed, and now Konohagakure was paying the price. Never the less, Higōhō pressed on and delivered the payload - satchels with hundreds of explosive tags in them - to their destinations despite being wounded. Higōhō was about to be cornered and killed, however, when Ibuki made an appearance. She was the last surviving member of her own team, and had just managed to deliver their payload to its' destination when she happened upon Higōhō being chased around a room. Not wasting a moment, she came to his aid, and together they killed the Iwagakure explosive expert that was trying to kill them. Ultimately the mission was a failure - the bombs were not strong enough to cause lasting damage and within a week the explosive corps had recovered from the attack, leaving Konohagakure with many dead and nothing to show for it. However, Higōhō and Ibuki found love, which in itself was a victory for them.

Heiwa
Peace
Following the disastrous loss of the clan's leaders, the Hanamari clan retreated after the war to continue their isolationist practices. During the war, they had lost a great many shinobi and the numbers of their clan had shrunk as a result of it. Higōhō's brother, Borou, was married off to the Uzumaki clan, where he fathered a young girl. However, this left them with the question who would take over the clan now - Borou had been the primary candidate, but his departure to the Uzumaki clan compound left the clan wondering what to do. Several new leaders were chosen, and during this period of time, Ibuki and Higoho got married. Several years later, Higōhō was elected leader and, in true spirit of himself, he ended the process of 'choosing' clan leaders and made himself the de-facto aristocratic leader of the family. [sup]Higōhō Hanamari[/sup] Under his leadership the clan strengthened again, and as happened to his brother, it was insisted upon that Hanamari clan members began marrying outside of the clan to establish ties and connections to all those other clans. Pacts were made with foreign villages to allow envoys from the Hanamari clan to work for the foreign villages as part of a program designed to allow Hanamari clan members to gain experience in foreign countries as well, which was tested first with Iwagakure and then with Sunagakure, where currently two members of the Hanamari clan are serving in the shinobi forces. They named the girl for that event, Itami, as Ibuki stated that was what she felt. The girl was blessed with a brother not much later - in fact, almost two months later - though it was not quite what one would have come to expect.

As part of a political agreement between the Hanamari clan and the Uchiha clan, a young orphaned boy from the Uchiha clan would join the Hanamari head household to strengthen the ties between the two clans. Since the Uchiha orphan was quite young, the agreement was that Ibuki and Higōhō would simply raise the child as their own and pretend that the Uchiha boy had been born as twins together with Itami. Fittingly, the boy was thus named 'Tsuin.' Thus - as a result, Itami and Tsuin were raised as though they were brother and sister - a secret kept between the two clans that only the most esteemed members of either clan were privy to. It was hoped, of course, that Tsuin would never unlock the Sharingan in order to ensure that nobody would find out the secret. But, fate often does things you had not come to expect, and Tsuin unlocked the Sharingan at the age of 10. Thus, the secret was uncovered and he was outed as 'Tsuin Uchiha' and not Tsuin Hanamari. [sub]Ibuki and Tsuin[/sub] This affair left a foul taste in the mouth of the two clans, who had hoped to strengthen their ties but were now faced with a dilemma. Would the boy go back to the Uchiha clan to safeguard the sharingan or would he be allowed to stay and run the risk of passing on the secrets of the sharingan. It was decided that, due to the bond Itami and Tsuin had supposedly formed, that he would stay in the Hanamari household but would adopt the name Tsuin Uchiha. A more misinformed choice could not have been made - Tsuin was left feeling unsure about his identity and grew resentment for the Hanamari family, who he felt had forced him into the situation. He grew more distant and was only part of the family when it was absolutely required - forming himself almost into a parade horse.
[sub]Tsuin [s]Hanamari[/s] Uchiha[/sub]
Some years after the revelation, a third child joined the family of four, now five, namely the child of Borou Hanamari, who had married off into the Uzumaki clan. He had died, and his wife had perished some years earlier as a result of a chakra related disease which was untreatable. The child resulting from that marriage, Jūyōna Uzumaki, was sent to live with the Hanamari clan as an homage to Burou's sacrifice for his family to be with the woman he loved. Jūyōna entered the family as a kunoichi that was already rather accomplished, and took up the name of Jūyōna Hanamari, though it was well known she was a Uzumaki regardless. Becoming the (adoptive) sister to both Itami and Tsuin, the family was 'complete' and was perhaps one of the most mixed families in the entirety of Konohagakure.
