They don't misfire that often
Early blackpowder weapons are notorious for being unreliable, inaccurate and dangerous. Sure a cannon might be safer than a mortar, but its still experimental and dangerous technology that still has a fairly high chance of blowing up in your face. Hell, most early cannons where only ever used for moral damage because the sound scare the shit out of people and horses. The cannons you're thinking of are the ones from the 1700s onward where we really figured out how to properly treat and use cannons instead of pray that it would kill more of the enemy than us. The first medieval cannons didn't even really look like tubes and more like vases instead.
they're easier to aim and move,
Not really. Yes they were lighter than mortars which we didn't figure out how to put on wheels until much later on, but early cannons even beyond the pot-de-fer where literally giant tubes of pure solid metal mounted on equally huge supports with equally massive wheels to move the damn thing. What you are thinking of most likely is horse artillery which wasn't invented and used in the 1700's. Even before horse artillery, cannons are extremely slow given the fact they're still solid chunks of metal being lugged on a heavy rig that could support their weight and the recoil which required at least two horses to pull. Also, cannon aiming is not a simple task of "point and shoot" unless you're aiming at something massive like a wall. You'd have to load in the exact amount of powder and hope you didn't put too much causing the shot to overshoot or too little causing the ball to land below your target area. We didn't understand the concept of ballistics until at least 1531 where mathematicians began the study of it and it only saw advances one Newton came around with his idea of gravity. tl;dr - The cannon you are claiming to have wouldn't exist in the technology level that I assumed this RP would take place in wouldn't actually exist for a comparative few hundred years. The cannons at our current technological level are crude, basic, dangerous, unreliable, heavy, slow, innaccurate and are easily out classed by more conventional artillery pieces unless you want the scare the shit out of the enemy.
