As for not revealing oneself, well...*shrug*  Although there /are/ automated messages that will laugh to start, tell little jokes, use common lingo -- and assure you they're not actually recorded, they're just required to stick to a script!  But I can tell because the sound quality is a little different, and usually the spoken rhythm and emphasis changes for real people even when repeating things.  For recordings it doesn't.
