Actually that's an urban legend that was spread around by organizations like PETA to stop the usage of cattle prods.  Cattle prods are designed to give a cow sharp sting with high voltage yet low amp, hence the name "cattle" prod.  We were talking about this in my ERWC class recently when arguing animal rights.
