“So let’s get started!” Felix’s remark put a smile on Max’s usually dead serious face and they started to practice. While Max was trying to teach Felix all he could about the basics of hand to hand combat, Felix got more enthusiastic and energetic with every lesson. It reached a point where Felix got so excited that he tried to pull off a flashy move in a sparring match. He took a step back and came charging at Max before jumping high in the air with a foot coming straight at Max’s face. But in his excitement, Felix lost control of his body and couldn’t control the impact of the blow, and yet Max wasn’t moving aside at all; at this rate Max would be more than hurt by Felix’s flying kick. “Bam!” Before Felix knew it, he was laying on the ground with Max on top of him. He went from kicking Max in the face to being detained by him in a split-second. With big confused eyes, he looked at Max. “What just happened, I was sure I was gonna hit you with that kick?” “You overestimate yourself, besides; those flashy moves only work in movies. All I did was took a step to the side, grabbed your leg, and pushed it down, causing you to lose your balance and come crashing down.” Max was very meticulous in his explanation, and it made Felix even more enthusiastic to learn more. But alas, before they could continue, they were asked to help find Shaun’s e-handbook; apparently Shaun had been drugged and left by a staircase. It could only mean 2 things, this was either a horrible prank…or a murder was taking place. Max had enough experience in his field of work to see it coming but he wasn’t sure if the murder had already happened. If there was still a chance to save the potential victims, he had to try; he had to. Meanwhile, a confused Felix was sheepishly following Max around with no idea why max was acting so weird. With a dead serious, almost threatening expression, Max went to the dining room where Shaun was supposed to be, but when he arrived he couldn’t find him anywhere. “Shit, where is that kid.” Max bit his tongue in frustration. “You mean Shaun? He may have gone to look for his e-handbook. But do you look so frustrated?” Max ignored Felix’s question and cautiously took a step back; he smelled smoke. Suddenly, Max started sprinting towards the source of the smoke, it was Shaun’s room. “Please tell me I’m not too late!” He shouted while pushing aside any people who stood between him…and Marianne. All he could do in response was close his eyes. A knob appeared in his throat as he tried to calm himself. Felix was no better off as he didn’t even enter the room; his legs wouldn’t allow it. The cries and horrified expressions on the faces of everyone was enough for Felix. He wanted no more…no more. Before allowing anyone to notice his pathetic emotions and posture, Felix ran, he ran as far as he could, away from the sorrow and despair that everyone felt. It was at the theatre that he finally halted his marathon. With tears on his face, he peered at the entrance. For some reason he remembered Shona watching him as he played the piano. That felt like a lifetime ago. He started thinking again. It happened again. I wasn’t strong enough back then, and I’m not strong enough now, I really can’t do anything. Wiping his tears away, he entered the theatre and simply sat down in a seat in the back, the same seat that Shona sat in back then. He closed his eyes and slowly fell into a deep slumber.
