As for the main plot line I was thinking something like this:

1) Unknown enemy dubbed 'The Devourer' is attacking outside worlds.

2) This enemy was initially attacked by the race that has now travelled to the hub worlds seeking protection.

3) The hub worlds are forced to join the fray after getting attacked by 'The Devourer' for the crime of harboring a criminal race.

4) Now an all-out war ensues between the hub worlds and 'The Devourer'.

5) THe main goal is to unravel the truth and stop the war. However, this can be done by either haveing the hub worlds be defeated, defeated 'The Devourer', or by bringing to light the true mastermind behind all this.

How does that sound?
