I almost exclusively use emotes in a light hearted or sarcastic manner. In context, they can certainly change how a sentence should read...Obviously, some things said with emoticons don't make them better. You can also rightfully criticize someone, in a civil way.

But I can say without a doubt in my mind. I've never said something in a genuinely angry or hateful way, with an emoji with an opposite intention.

in my opinion, emojis don't change how a sentence should read. they're just tacked on in the end in a vague expression of humour. however, to each their own. just never unironically use the ok hand emoji.
