The sheriff himself is actually important to the hidden plot in a way that I worry would ruin your friends character-do you think instead your friend could be the only deputy in town? The town is so small it only has a deputy and the sheriff, and the sheriff himself tends to have a very hands off approach to anything that actually happens in Brimstone. I was originally going to have the deputy be the same, kinda unwilling/unable to do actual police work but if your friend would like to do that or take the character in a total different direction feel free to. I could see that working out in a cool sort of "lower rank cop vs the upper ranking not really a cop" dynamic.
