He has lead thus far, a quiet, unassuming life. He was born during lean times, and many of his mother's; Lichenglow's, kits were still born. Only Sagekit and his sister, Owlkit made it. Food was scarce and after only a few brief weeks of coexisting, Owlkit died from starvation. Sagepaw survived the famine season he was born into barely, and even now, still looks slightly underweight and smaller than he should be. Not many litters were produced during the famine and as a result, he usually spent time with his older brother, Hailstrike, who was from an earlier litter and was a young warrior by the time Sagekit came around. Even with the occasional company of his brother, he kept mostly to himself and unlike most other kits at his age, was very reclusive and aloof. Sometimes he would wander off and go to the furthest reaches of the clan camp, tracing the camp borders. He often walked close to the delicate line of where he could and couldn't go as a kit, but never strayed too far outright. Even as a small kit, he had a precocious sense of independency and balanced maturity. Though of course, with his insatiable curiosity comes danger, as adventure and peril oft go hand in hand.

Around the time he was four moons old, he decided to be slightly rebellious for once. He had never passed through the hunting grounds of the camp, as that was an unspoken off-limits area for him. Perhaps it was his highly individualistic side that swayed him to journey outwards. With quiet determination, he left from his mother's side and ventured off. He had not foreseen the heavy rains to come later that day, as the sunshine filled day betrayed the turbulent weather that would strike.

Sagekit friskily padded along the banks of the river that lies just south of the camp. The new sense of freedom that he had was like an ambrosia to him, and it intoxicated him with emboldened self-pride. Then, calamity struck. Seemingly without warning, torrential rains poured down from the firmament and onto the ground with no mercy. The mud he stood upon sunk beneath his paws and he was swept into the raging current of the river.

Fortunately for him, there was a border skirmish going on between Lightclan and Oakclan that day. The patrol had just chased the lightclan warriors away and were getting ready to head back when a senior warrior from Oakclan noticed an unusually shaped creature bobbing up and down in the rapids. Wondering what it might be, the warrior plucked Sagekit from the water and realized it was one of the kits from Oakclan. Rushing back to Oakclan, Sagepaw had faced yet another trail life had thrown to him.

Sagekit opened his vibrant eyes to a medicine den. Hovering over him was Frostwhisker, the medicine cat. Sweet relief to be alive, he stirred his leaden joints as life rushed back into his small frame. From then on, he was enamored with Frostwhisker, following her around faithfully, asking questions and doing whatever he could to help her. Not only was he thankful to be saved, his rescue had awakened a new spark of devotion to the pursuit of medicine. He talked more than he ever had in the past while in the medicine den, and he began to dwell there as if it were his own den. Soon enough, his wishes came true and just a moon ago, he became the medicine cat's apprentice.
