Name: Dr. Miles Aster, Deputy Director of the Association for the Survival of Humanity and Experiment-200 overseer. Age: 59 Sex: M Appearance: Caucasian. 5'10", thin but not skinny. Dark brown hair cut to about an inch long. Dark brown eyes. Clothing: Grey collared shirt, black necktie, heavy white lab coat with the Institute's logo printed on the shoulder, black dress pants, black leather shoes, rectangular gunmetal-gray eyeglasses. Personality: MASTER is a cold, calculating man, who is defined by his ability to separate data from empathy. If he is insane, he doesn't show it. Background: Aster is the Deputy Director of ASH, circa 2200. He has been sent back through time to conduct an experiment on unwilling participants in the early 21st century. Sometime between 2000 and 2200 AD, the world goes from a prosperous utopia to ground zero. WWIII renders much of the world, especially the United States, uninhabitable. Any cities that were not struck with nuclear warheads were decimated by conventional bombs. A vast majority of them are uninhabitable. Those that are are ghost towns. Humanity since has been limping onward, struggling to sustain itself. The United Nations has disbanded and every country is tending to themselves, so all outside aid has been cut off. For a while, the survivors worked together to rebuild and inhabit cities. But peace can only last so long, and it only takes one warmonger with a little support to tear everything back down. Such is the life in one particular American city. For an entire generation, they have lived peaceably among themselves. Human ingenuity has helped them develop enough farmland and harvesting to feed their population. But trouble is brewing. They're been noticed by a particularly successful warlord who is looking to expand his territory. The town is well defended with walls and small arms, but the new generation knows nothing of fighting. They have been carefully watched over by parents desperate to give their children a peaceful future, and as a result, they are both naive and inexperienced, making them easy prey for dictators-to-be. Amidst all of this is the Association for the Survival of Humanity, an organization founded with the express purpose of keeping humans alive and furthering the race. ASH has tried desperately to seize control of the population and restore balance, but they have never had the resources or manpower to attempt such a thing. The founders changed their focus, deciding instead to monitor and support one town. The exact town that is now a target. Aware of the danger but unable to convince the hapless civilians to fight, a rather radical solution was formulated. The Association would bring people capable of killing to the town to defend it. Unfortunately, the military was inaccessible, and the only people around who could kill others were not exactly reliable or trustworthy. They needed people who could empathize with others but have the mental capacity to take a life. And so Experiment-200 was launched. [s]By means of time travel (explanations will be worked out later)[/s], scientists and lab assistants were sent 200 years back in time to the era just prior to the scientific utopia, a time where peace and violence uneasily coexisted. A mock town was constructed. Cameras were set. Weapons were stockpiled. 2000-era clothing and uniforms were scavenged. And unwilling participants were taken there. E-200 was presided over by Miles Aster, the Deputy Director of the Association, who volunteered to oversee the project. Miles was not an evil man. He took no pleasure in his treatment of the test subjects. He was simply capable of separating empathy from data. And that is exactly what he did.
