Not being a close follower of Superman comics, I've never been sure just how much of the general public knows that Supes is from another planet. An alien character could potentially hide his origins indefinitely, especially if her physiology was very close to human. And even if it weren't, she could claim that the onset of her powers transformed her in some way. Since no one knows anything about why people are manifesting super powers at this point, who could disprove that claim?
Actually one of the biggest things that bug me about Superman is the fact that its pretty common knowledge in the DCU that he is an alien. Especially after the various invasions by other of his species (Brainiac, Zod, and Doomsday for example) as well as other aliens who have publicly identified him as a kryptonian. The reason it bugs me is the lack of realism to it. The world knows he's an extra terrestrial, they even know his partially at fault for some of those invasions. Yet the majority worship him, while those who publicly state a mistrust of his alien nature (Luthor for example) are publicly ostracized. Marvel does it better; Take mutants for example, the majority of them caused no harm to the masses, they were simply different. Yet the masses feared and hated them for those differences. Its a more realistic, and sadly human, response.
Superman has the memeworthy honor of no one really knowing he is an alien by simply fooling everyone with glasses. Somehow, despite his face, hair, voice, and skin tone being perfectly like Clark Kent, the glasses make people not realize his superhero identity. However, Superman, as with a few other DC heroes, is also infamous for new powers or gadgets being written to make them unable to lose. For example, it is canon that Superman can project mini Supermen from his hands since it somehow solved an issue at some point. Certain writers tend to write in new powers for him any time he gets remotely close to trouble. Others make him more relatable rather than just pure superhero that punches baddies. I personally find Superman boring and too much of a Boy Scout trope.
You are mistaken. Clark Kent has the memeworthy honor of no one knowing he's superman and thus an alien. Superman however has had his origin sited in news reports. There is technically a difference.
