[b]Recent History[/b]: When the Targaryen's returned to Westeros, House Tyrell answered the call to arms of the Dragon. House Tarly rebelled against their rightful lords, and sided with the Lannisters in destroying much of House Tyrell. House Rowan, led by Lord Matias Rowan, refused to betray his oaths as the Tarly's did. He led House Rowan in open battle against House Tarly and Lannister for many months, until the war eventually came to an end. With their victory, House Rowan became the predominant military House in the Reach, replacing House Tarly.
