[@Kalleth] If I can add to that, Zeke will, in theory, eventually be capable of all sorts of light manipulation. Even his "painting" is a crutch for an eventual ability to create those images entirely mentally. He'll never be fantastic at laser beams or solar flares or even shining from himself. But he will be able to do all those things eventually.

Increased competence is marked by better generalisation, not further specialisation. It's like all your abilities level up over time, instead of using your points to concentrate your expertise.
