Maybe it was the sense of urgency that seemed to grim him when he heard the music suddenly stop. Mybe it was the growning realization that with every step he took he was marching closer to potential death. Maybe, just maybe, it was the blood and bodies that were on the floor that shifted his frame of thought from brave heroism to 'Im so fucking stupid', but he was already on death's doorstep, and he could hear screaming in other rooms. The demoralization was also affecting Ryu, who was trailing a few feet behind him. "I swear to god, Dex. If we die, I'm going to drag us out of hell just so I can kill you again," the boy in mention called out, his words echoing throughout the night air. Things were mostly silent aside from the screaming, and he thanked god that the music had been cut off. Dying to a Katy Perry song would probably be worse than death itself. Dexter opened his mouth to retort, but the roar of fire filled the building and abruptly cut him off. Accompanying the sound of flame was yelling, angry and guttaral and of various sources. Dexter followed the sound, rounding a corner only to see more death, and a young woman with her trapped under fallen roof wood. Fire was crawling up the walls, and at the center of the room, with his back turned to Dexter, a huge, bloody, and burnt man with an equally bloody axe. Ryu stumbled in close behind, heart racing as his mind tried to formulate some kind of plan - one that didn't involve everyone dying in a fiery inferno, or at the hands of Mad Axe in the center. "Aaaargh! Come on!" The woman in question was struggling to free herself from the burning rubble. Originally, Madeline came to the party to have a few drinks and explore the mountain, but the sheriff's son turning into The Hash-Slinging Slasher had said otherwise. After a few minutes of trying to find a weapon to fend the guy off, the building had started to catch fire. So, common sense and her fear of fire dictated that she ditch that idea and run for the door. Lumber Mill burnt far too easily, and a falling piece of roof pinned her down by her back and leg. As the Sheriff's Son approached, she stopped struggling against the wood, involuntarily looking over to the axe muderer, bloody and burnt. "Oh god, no!" Paranoia had her continue to try and free herself, picking up a faster pace than before. Dexter didn't think about his following decision, immediately deciding that this woman's life was more valuable than his own. He lunged forward with a battle cry and his shovel held high above his head, and with all the force he could, he swung the shovel into the sheriff's son's flank, with the flat end of the shovel making a satisfying whump noise as it connected with what was likely the sheriff's son's ribs. The feeling of victory quickly faded as the reality of what he had just done set in. It had hit the brute hard... but all it did was end up somewhat bent, and it simply just shifted priorities from the girl, to Dexter. The brute whipped around fast, with the axe in an overhead swing - targetting no area in particular. Just wanted to bifurcate the annoyance and move on. Dexter out of instinct stepped backwards, tripping himself and falling at Ryu's feet, and the axe split the floorboards right between his legs. As the axe man moved for a second swing, Dexter threw his arms above his face, closed his eyes, and tried to make himself a small of a target as he could in a last ditch effort to protect himself. Out of his hands came an impossibly bright flash, which filled orange firelit room with a much brighter and purer light. The corrupted brute loudly yelled as he covered his eyes, stumbling backwards as he tried to recover from the horrendus assault on his optic nerves. He flailed a bit, knocking over a support beam, but still yelled. "Ah, fuck!" Ryu cried, almost in unison with the brute, his eyes snapping shut as he tried to recover from the sudden flash. Even in the face of danger, he still had time to get seriously pissed off at some sudden light, the sudden lack of one of his senses making it easier to feel the warmth of the flames around them. Somehow, there was a slight breeze on his neck, like a cold chill swimming over his skin and making itself at home... if he'd opened his eyes he might not have believed them. Dexter kicked himself backwards and away from the axe man's range as the brute stumbled away. He looked to his hands, and then back to the girl who was still stuck and crawled forwards, and attempted to help her free herself. "C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, we gotta go!" he said in desperation, jamming the now damaged shovel under the wood and attempting to pry it upwards as the brute lumbered around behind them. Madeline held her leg and hissed in pain as she was assisted out of the rubble. She pulled her legs out and was all too quickly pulled up to standing by the unfamiliar and altogether too stupid male. "What the hell dude?!" she protested. "Can't you see I got a broken leg?!" "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Dexter just about shouted back, ditching the shovel so he could adujsting the woman's stance and putting her arm around his shoulders an an attempt to take the weight off of her leg. In their confusion, Dexter had used up the time he had bought himself, and the sheriff's son was almost upon them once again. Angrier than before, if that was even possible. With no knowlege of how to do his little magic trick again and nowhere to run, Dexter was very quickly realizing that they were fucked. The Sheriff's son loomed over them, holding an axe overhead and ready to bring it down on them both once more. However, much to the surprise of the group, the terrified Korean teen would be the one to save the day. Amidst the chaos and confusion, unbeknownst to himself, a vortex of frustration and anger had been forming within his mind; one that had now manifested in reality. When his eyes snapped open, Ryu was almost terrified by this black swirling sphere that was floating behind the sheriff's son. And, as if by magic, the swirling darkness was almost drawing the looming tower of death towards it. "What... the... fuck," were the only words he could form, watching on in horror and intrigue as the sheriff's son struggled and fell to the floor, pulled back by some cosmic force that the Korean had somehow generated, but quickly realised it was not the brute being sucked into it. Instead, said brute was disarmed by it; his axe sucked into some other universe. Ryu was in no way relieved as the vortex swirled, despite the brute's weapon of choice now being lost to whatever magic that he possessed in his mind. He was, however, still somewhat curious as to what the fuck was happening to him. Dexter however, was far less curious. All the heroism he ever had, had left his body not long after an axe landed between his legs. He walked himself and Madeline over to Ryu without too much difficulty, but with all too much haste for a woman with a broken leg. "Help me with her!" Dexter said, looking over to Madeline, his whole face contorted with worry. "She's got a broken leg!" The words of his friend snapped Ryu out of his near-trance, his fight or flight instinct kicking in as the other near-death situation became known to him again. They had some time now, and they all intended to take their leave. He nodded wordlessly, too confused and terrified to speak, placing his shoulder under the girl's arm for support so they could get the fuck out. Needless to say, getting out of the mill was much easier than getting back into it. As the trio clambered out of the mill and into the woods on the way back to Dexter's car, a mystical blue luminescence enveloped Madeline's leg and other minor injuries she had. "Woah, somehow I'm a firefly now..." She said, eyes widen in suprise. As her leg began to warp back into shape, Dexter and Ryu slackened their holds on her so she could support herself. The trio stumbled into the road, with Dexter tripping and falling on the curb and falling limply onto the street, almost completely spent and most definitely shell shocked. "What the FUCK?" Dexter shouted, his arms coming up to cover his face. He remained in this position for another few moments, but when he picked himself up, and looked at the two and front of him, he almost looked like he was about to cry. Dexter could see a black band of energy surrounding Ryu, and a blue band of energy around Madeline. It was only a few millimeters or so thick, but to him it stuck out like a sore thumb. As if it was impossible not to notice. "You two are glowing." Dexter stated, completely dumbfounded. He looked down at his hands and saw another thin band of golden energy around himself. "I'm glowing. I'm fucking gl-" Dexter stopped himself, deciding to chalk it up to one more fucked up thing from the night. Ryu tilted his head, looking his friend up and down. "Of course. Out of all the shit that happened tonight, that's the stuff that ain't real. Glowing. Fucking hell," he said, brow furrowed as he huffed. "Is it just me or is anyone else here fucking pissed?" "Ryu, you have a symbol on your neck." he choked out. He looked to Madeline and could see another on her wrist. "You both, you both have a thing." he said, standing up and grabbing Madeline's hand in some weird attempt to make her look at it. "Hey-!! wait." Before Madeline could swipe her hand back, she saw the symbol of a lotus below her hand, like Dexter pointed out. "What the hell.." Dexter was resigned to whatever the fuck was going on. He was tired, somewhat injured, freaked out, and his mind had stopped attempting to make sense of the situation. Instead, he was far more concerned with just getting the hell out of this area. He turned around stumbled to his car, unlocking it and just about falling into the diver's seat. He wasn't even concerned with the fact that he only had two seats in his car. She could sit on Ryu's lap. The kid was a pervert but was likely still too intoxicated to do anything stupid, at least not in the sexual manner. He was still a dumbass. "I'm spent for the night. I'm getting the fuck out of here. Coming?" he questioned, lazily reaching for the passenger door and opening it. "Drive me home before I suck us into the void," was Ryu's eloquent response as he stretched, the haze of negativity wearing off a little. He took one last glance up at the lumber mill, which was now reduced to a burning wreck, the sound of the flames carried across the night air. "Or at least before the rest of the woods go up in flames." "Yeah, I might just sleep in early when I get home. Kinda think this through..." Madeline answered, a bit less harsh than Ryu. Dexter didn't need a whole lot of convincing beyond that.

When Madeline mentioned her address, Dexter immediately knew where he was going. It was a small town and the ghost girl's local was known well enough, even if Dexter wasn't one to buy into rumors. He pulled up into Madeline's driveway, the music and focus that the drive had provided had done it's part in helping them calm down, or at least, Dexter felt more himself. Even if he was still incredibly confused by the night's events. "Can I walk you up?" Dexter offered to Madeline. "Appreciate the gesture, and helping me back at the mill even, but I think I'll be fine alone now..." Madeline politely declined. After all, she just wanted to collapse on her couch back home and play some Super Mario of sorts, after the masacre they had witnessed. Dexter did two lazy finger guns. "Take it easy." At this point, he wasn't even trying to get laid anymore.
