Mikhail's Backstory
Mikhail was born on the asteroid colony known as Reikhelm, though she always referred to it as a pit of shit. Her parents died when she was about five, just barely old enough to survive the slums of Reikhelm. Their names were Richard and Elise Lannyster. Mikhail's father had been a mechanic in Reikhelm's docks, though her mother had been a thief. Of course, Mikhail's father had been a man of almost serene dignity in a place full of Hellions. As such, the truth of her mother's profession only reached the man's ears through gossip. However, Richard Lannyster never belived the rumours, at least, not until the day he died. It had happened in the dark hours, the time frame on Riekhelm that replicated the nights on a true planet. It happened quickly and suddenly, out of nowhere, men appeared around the Lannysters' home. These weren't just any men either, these were men that worked for the top of the food chain in Reikhelm. Elise Lannyster had stolen something she shouldn't have, and now her family would pay the price. Taking their daughter, Elise hid her in a special safe room that she had prepared without Richard's knowledge. Then, promptly and exactly, the couple were murdered. The man from whom Elise stole was none other than the self-proclaimed Count of Reikhelm, Sir Matthew Merion. Esvaping with only her life and the incredible gifts from her parents, Mikhail was forced to live on the streets. Not knowing what happened or why, the young girl began to fall into an obsession with her parents' death. She quickly came to dominate the Runner business of Reikhelm, as her mother had long ago. Easily moving objects and information all throughout Reikhelm, Mikhail began to hear stories. Stories about the Outer Sector. Unlike the Inner Sector, the OS didn't rotate, as such it had next to no gravity. Also, among the slums of Reikhelm it was a commonly held belief that no one could live in the OS. However, these claims were wrong, but, alas, because of rumors like that, the OS remained relatively untouched. At least, until Mikhail ventured up there. Different from the IS, the OS was vast and empty. There the sun kissed Reikhelm. It was quiet, for the most part. The only drawback, ther ewas no atmosphere outside of the buildings. Of course, that was a problem that needed fixing. Mikhail spent the next few years scavenging the OS. Eventually, at the age of nine, Mikhail successfully fabricated her own suit for the airless vacuum. In preparation, Most khail had already set up a shop in the OS, along with managing to obtain a hoverboard. Don't ask how, just know that she has one. As such, her ability to complete Runner jobs soared above everyone else on Reikhelm. She merely took the OS as a shortcut, not having to worry about the hallways and mazes that had once troubled her. Of course, Mikhail was forced to follow the cables that existed between the towering buildings that dominated the OS. Eventually, her success would bring undo attentionto the girl. Having moved onto a job in Reikhelm's shipyard, Mikhail onve again rose quickly through the ranks. In all the history of that shipyard, only one man had ever excelled so greatly at understanding machines and technology. Richard Lannyster. Romours began to circulate when Mikhail was fourteen. Hearing these rumours, Merion, Reikhelm's criminal Count, began to look into them. It was then that he discovered a holein his schemes. Mikhail Lannyster was the daughter of a woman that had stolen from him. Becoming enraged, the Count ordered her death. As such, the first attempt came quickly. A little 'mishap' in the shipyard, an explosion that had been ment to kill Mikhail, but merely took her eyes. After this, the young girl had been laid off by the shipyard. Taking her loss of sight, Mikhail returned to her shop in the OS. There she remained for about a year. With her disappearance, it had been assumed that the young, gifted girl had passed away somewhere, her body dumped into the great furbaces of Reikhelm. However, this year had been spent on one thing. Using hidden technologies that she had uncovered, Mikhail developed a new set of eyes for herself. Now, with eyes, Mikhail stayed within her workshop. She had looked over the facts of the explosion. Then, after a few months, Mikhail came to one conclusion. It was no accident, the chemicals being used weren't even explosive in the first place. It had been an attempt a her life. All of a sudden, the young woman remembered her parents and their mysterious deaths. It all clicked, Mikhail was the final piece, the loose end. Spending another year, Mikhail was sixteen at this time, the young woman created her spiders, little insectoid machines that would help her in what she was about to do. She also managed to get a certain, underground surgeon installed her Data System. The system, lying underneath the skin, took up the entire right side of her head. It had wireless capabilities, causing Mikhail to become connected to her spiders. They were now her eyes, hands, feet, and tools. It was then that the young woman began her campaign. Hearing rumours of Merion's dealings, Mikhail, through the use of the OS, broke into the man's home. As luck would have it, Mikhail found the proof she was looking for, but lost her arm after the Merion's guards caught up to her. Retreating like a bat out of hell. The young woman returned to the shadows, the sunlit realms of the OS. Of course, after building herself a new arm, Mikhail consequently lost her left leg in an accident. Taking her out of commission, Mikhail watched Merion from the eyes of spiders. Her network had grown in the past year, as had her own strength. Mikhail had been forced, from the severe difference in strength between her organic and non-organic limbs, to take up the Runner business again. This time though, she did horribly. She couldn't run well, nor could she climb well, but she had to adjust. Keeping at it, never stopping, Mikhail eventually climbed to the top of the Runners again. Her name, an annoyance to Merion, became legend in the slums. Of course, this was only a means to an end. All the time she had been plotting. Then her campaign against Merion began in earnest. The Count's businesse began to rise in smoke, as his ships would continue to explode outside of Reikhelm. No one knew what was happening. Then, deaths began to appear. A few at first, and then a tidal wave of corpses were found. All in places were they would be found, someone wanted to send a message. The only thing, only the Count knew what it was. "Look, see, all those people who helped kill my parents, kill me, are dead. You're next." Sure enough, Mikhail stuck to her message. It was in the Dark Hours. She came, her spiders hidden in the shadows, climbing up the walls of the Count's warehouse, the place that Merion had escaped to in the wake of the murders. Mikhail entered through the roof, her movements silent, the only light coming from her eyes. Moving like a wraith, the woman homed in on her prey. Seeing him, sleeping there, peacefully, Mikhail couldn't stop herself. She woke the poor man up. Immediately, Merion knew who it was, but that was all the time he had. Leaving through the roof, just as she had enterred, Mikhail left a head, frozen in surprise, on the pillow. Mikhail was 19 now. Immediately, without looking back, the woman escaped Reikhelm. Now she was on her own, using a ship she had scavenged together, Mikhail travelled. Her past would forever remain in the past.
