Grant Wesley Lietner
Alias: Or really something in reference to him. He’s sort of a following title known as the “Ghoul Eater”. Faction: Investigator - First Class Investigator Age: 32 Gender: Male “Don’t stare at me like I bite, I won’t….much” -dry laughs- “You should really see your face right now. I am only joking with you.”

Your eyes had a hard time focusing on what you should look at first. His gray irises were haunting to look at, they were piercing and even when he was trying to lighten you up you couldn’t, but couldn’t help feel trapped in his gaze. You felt like your own reflection was held captive by his gaze, imprisoned by spherical observation from a visionary study. It bore inside of you or more like tried to wear your mind to figure you out. Stare anywhere else and it didn’t feel comfortable either way. Half of his face was mangle on the left side, his teeth were exposed, thick raised scars cut across the wound like it could retell the story of how it all happened, he was so gaunt in the face in some places and his face was so narrow that it gave you the feeling you were staring at the mouth of a skeleton or corpse. Which didn’t ease your troubleness in his appearance. He was a sparrow in your eyes, he was so bony and thin you wondered how he managed to pass the Investigator exams in the first place. He reminded you of a very bony fish or at least what was leftover of the carcass after you cleared it of its meat. His suit was neat, maybe a bit too neat, inhumanely neat. It was well pressed to the point there were no wrinkles, his collar was too straight for your liking. It was like he was trying to give the impression of sophistication and it worked, but for all the wrong reasons. His slacks were black and straight, without a wrinkle in sight, and the only impression that he was not a mechanical man was probably his dress shoes that had minor wear and tear on it. It was a neatness that didn’t suit him, when his wavy hair was comb, but laid whichever way it please. Like he spent enough time to comb through it, but not really where he should place it letting it lay naturally wherever it may. Or the fact he smelled of cigarettes. He was in every way caucasian, his pale complexion didn’t change your point of view about the side of his mangled face looking like it deserved a place in a zombie flick. Even when you tried not to look at any of those details, his hands were bony you could see where the main vein lay. “Don’t you have very busy eyes,” “Oh, uh, sorry,” “No it was very interesting,” Interesting how? In English he a very clear Standard London accent, though he wasn’t very clear as to where he was actually from. Though in Japanese that isn’t well heard, he speaks fluently enough that he can get away with an odd word here and there. His voice was a lot more subtle than you’d think it should sound. On looks alone you got the impression of someone who would also speak in a very sinister way. Instead he spoke in two ways that betrayed each other's affect. His voice was modulate, it was well controlled, and had a pleasant softness to it that would have been comforting if it didn’t feel flat and monotonous at the same time. The dryness in his tone, and gruffness didn’t really help to convince you that he wasn’t at least faking a little bit of what he was saying. He stands at 5’11”, 180cm, and weighs 135 pounds, 61kg. Quinque Gluttony - Ukaku - Tegaki Shoku

This is probably where those silly Ghoul Eater names came from, is for his most noticeable weapon Gluttony. Gluttony looks on the surface to simply be a Tegaki Shoku glove made into a Quinque, but has a noticeable feature. The under claws, often used to grip onto things, extend with the upper claws to form a mouth. This mouth essentially bites down on whatever is the target is pointing at, at a medium range. Though it doesn’t necessarily need the mouth to be a functional weapon, as it also works like any normal Tegaki Shoku. Sloth - Koukaku - Arm Bracer

Nobody likes their flesh ripped off, it’s painful and honestly not something someone wants as a vacation to deal with. Sloth is essentially as a lightweight arm guard, with a nasty temperament. It may just look like an ordinary armor hat guards his arm, but when it is struck it activates a defense mechanism that manifest a buzzing saw that attacks the highest nearby Rc cell concentration. Agito “Dragon’s Jaw” *as seen in appearance The mask that Grant wears is named Agito, the kanji written to mean “dragon’s jaw”. It is the token of one of his first successful kills. He wears it to send a message to Ghouls, a message that apparently worked if his face has anything to say for it. A black half mask, ripped where Grant's face took the most abuse. Agito is only worn for special occasions. He isn't so attached to it that he'll wear it everywhere. Personality: Pretending to be human is a good way of describing Grant’s personality. He can fool some people, but not everybody is fooled by the surface level amount of charm he has. Study too deeply into Grant and you find yourself a warped individual who probably is as Human as a Ghoul is Human. It gives some the impression of a mechanical being who is merely playing along what it must mean to be Human or at least their perception of what Humans act like. On the surface, if you’re not paying enough attention Grant is a charming, intellectual young man. He has his oddities and quirks and certainly looks terrifying. And he always sort of creep you out, but you just don’t know why you like the guy. Pay closer attention to the depths and the man is often by avoided others. When the surface begins to crack, it begins to display a man whose very nature is hollow and plastic. He rarely shows a display of actual affection, everything he ever says comes off rehearsed like he’s practiced it in his mind or at least is imitating how other people speak. There is an offness about him, that make you begin to realize that he may just not care. The reality is Grant lacks the capability to empathize with other, or sympathize with them. He’s always processed his emotions, he’s never felt his emotions. Everything is filtered through a rather callous point of view of the world. Where people are puppets, that you can twist their actions with simple words alone. And Ghouls are fascinating insights into the mind of a cruel creation. People don’t interest Grant, they are rarely rational, rarely intelligent, and rarely ever are as composed as they like to think they are. Ghouls fascinate Grant and excite him. He seeks to understand their mind because he believes it is what separates him from other Investigators. It probably does to some extent as well. Grant is not an easy man to admire nor an easy many to like, his callous, analytical point of view about the world and the fact that he cannot shed a single tear of grief for those in grief makes him less than human to some. Incapable of feeling love, incapable of feeling grief, guilt, or shame, being an Investigator is an easy pass for Grant to allow him the freedom to do what he desires. Death excites him. Horror makes his skin crawl with joy. All the things most would be repulsed by he is absolutely captivated by. Despite this no one has ever seen Grant lose control. Well not in any sense a normal person would lose control. He’s too calm, too quiet, nothing seems to phase him in the same horrific manner it may another person. He’s always been cautious and careful, he thinks before he acts, but doesn’t necessarily always have a plan for every given situation. Though he processes things at much higher level than most people on average would so he’s quickly able to come up for a solution towards a problem. And against his nature or to an outsider looking in it would seem against his nature, there are things to consider about Grant that could be considered positive traits. He is loyal and will honor those he is working with. Not because they interest him in anyway, but because of a deep level of complicated morals that others might not understand. Anyone inside of his circle is sacred and thus to be spared. Anyone outside of his circle is free for him to scrutinize, judge, or butcher. Grant doesn’t necessarily lash out at anyone he deems unworthy of his time in the first place. If you have been considered something to spare for whatever reasons he may deemed, then you are most likely to gain yourself at least a reliable partner. Usually because he finds you insignificant, but at least he has your back despite not feeling threatened by you. In his spare time Grant likes to people watch. He’s even been seen to prowl a little behind people to see how long he can keep up with them until they notice him or he loses interest. His only real in depth relationships seem to be with his cats. Any other outside relationship has been a series of failures one after another because Grant cannot fake human for far too long. Love and relationships are far too complicated of an emotion to be able to mimic without the other partner feeling like the other isn’t giving enough. He also seems to have a habit of poorly made jokes at the expense of others. Such as watching their reactions by telling them something he’ll know will press a button. Or using a silly straw to drink out of instead of a normal one just to get people’s reactions. Grant may be an entirely broken individual, but he is a good Investigator. Cunning, intelligent, and able to think fast has allowed him to rise in the ranks. His unorthodox methods mean he is often left to his own devices by others, besides his partners. Grant shows some kind of odd form of compassion to his partners. He’s not really capable of it, but has managed a bit of it over the years. To tolerate another person in his presence for long periods of time. All in all Grant is not an easy summary or an easy read. To even to begin to unravel the nature of his dichotomy would probably take several hours, and several, years worth of therapy sessions. Skills: Perceptive - It’s very hard to pull the wool over Grant’s eyes so to speak. Due to his past circumstances he’s been taught or conditioned to look at every little detail with deep scrutiny. Everything is somehow connected to something in someway and you have to look for the tiniest detail that may not seem connected to an event because it might be an insignificant detail or it could be something bigger than that. For example in a case where a victim was bludgeon on the head, why is her hair on the doorknob, because she was smashed into the door. And what do you know blood particles in the keyhole. Every detail must be looked at and then eliminated. It isn’t just with objects, but people as well. They like to think themselves so composed and so in control. But you often find them slipping up when something is done that is not expected or if they think no one is watching the, That’s why it is so important to watch them. It is so important to find their buttons, what makes them tick, what makes them them. “Stalking” - I prefer the term Stealthy Following For a man as tall as he is, he certainly can hide in a crowd well. When he has his eyes on someone it’s like their vision is burned in his memory. He is able to narrow or focus on them and cut out the noise of the crowd. And only visualize them. How he is never noticed by the individual is a mystery to most people, and for a human it’s quite impressive how he’s managed to “mask his presence”. Ghoul Behavior “Expert” - Grant seems to be the only person fascinated with the idea of trying to get into the mindset of how a Ghoul thinks. He almost seems obsessed with the idea. He doesn’t just investigate a crime scene. He tries to get into the mind of the perpetrator in question. He ask himself questions about the crime scene, and takes a rather while to absorb the details of the scene. A person can leave just the tiniest hint of themselves in the crime scene. For example a butchered body, mangled, with no recognizable features, may mean whomever committed the act is feral, or feral like. One that might enjoy the hunt or the kill or the thrill of butchering someone. Where would they hide? Well if they are feral, cornered animals like the dark, so I would find somewhere dark to hide. But if the body was left in a state of mostly intact pieces, with a few choice areas of cuts. Then you could discern the individual has some kind of remorse, or some kind of emotional rationalization. Where would I hide, out in public, in the crowds, but maybe I would anxious. Maybe I would be nervous or something about me that draws a stranger’s attention. And so and so forth. It isn’t about killing Ghouls. It’s about wearing their mind. Maybe just maybe it would be easier to hunt them and keep them in control. Manipulation - He’s never really been above doing what he needs to get what he wants. People are still toys, things he can push their buttons and make them do things that he wants them to do. Because people are irrational, emotional, and once you figure out what makes them tick you can easily find a way to manipulate them to do things you want them to do. Offness - Albeit a bit more of a passive capability of his. Grant has always come off a little off to people. His creepy nature can sometimes be to his advantage, as it can be a bit intimidating to be in the same room as him. You know there isn’t something right about him, but most people don’t have the capabilities to dive much further into it. Fishing - A man cannot have his hobbies? No one bats an eye at you when you go fishing, there’s no people, there’s no crowds, and you can gut an animal without anyone looking at you with suspicion. Baking - Another quiet, relaxing activity. I know how to make edible flowers, and how to make the cupcakes look accurate to the ones on the magazines. Problem is no one at work wants to eat my baked goods when I bring them to work. Oh how suspicious they are. That would be if I got fired or demoted. Equipment: His Quinque of course, though they are in his case if he needs them, it’s not like he brings them everywhere. His Wallet which includes; One of those coupon cards, that you get stamps on it, “Get 10 Cups of Coffee and get 1 Free” , has 5 Stamps on it Coupon for free cold brew coffee A handful of receipts in the money pocket Several different credit cards His CCG ID His regular ID He carries several different cellphones at a time in his car at least, many of them are prepaid phones that have a certain amount of data on them On a keychain he has several different sets of keys aside from his car keys and his house keys, he has keys for his mailbox in Europe, he has keys that don’t seem to go anywhere either Lint Roller in his car usually Carton of cigarettes Pink Twirly Silly Straw History: The Lietner has probably went down in more infamy than it has ever fame. His father John Lietner was probably more famous in Europe. But that fame probably began to spiral down into infamy the more John completely lost his mind. There really wasn’t much to salvage about John’s personality in the end. At least his son has always seemed, or at least seemed to come out of the situation more intact than his father did. Most of Grant’s early life was exposed to traumatic horror that would have otherwise left a child in a state of fear, but somehow Grant took his father’s lessons more like inspirations, challenges, and other number of task his mind could process it. His mother Sophie died when he was too young to remember her. A Ghoul who had it out against John stalked and hunted her down. Some say that was John’s decent into madness. Others say John was clearly already mad before that. John was was very paranoid and suspicious man due to his job and the death of Sophie the only thing that probably made John feel human pushed that suspicious and paranoid man to the brink. Who then mentally tortured his son for years. Some of it was usual stuff, screening every single person Grant had ever perhaps wanted as a friend. Though even as a kid Grant had a hard time connecting with kids his age He struggled with internalizing emotions in the same way they perhaps did and his father strict, suspicion of others didn’t help social skills flourish. Every single person you knew could be out there to get you. The friend you consider could be a ghoul. Grant wasn’t allowed out at night by himself. Grant wasn’t allowed friends. Grant wasn’t allowed to answer the door if he didn’t recognize the person as immediate family. Then there were the harsher lessons. Like the time his father butchered the family cat in front of him to teach him or maybe perhaps force some kind of sense of grief into him. All because Grant had asked to go out to a seminar for school. Or the time his father suddenly turned on him and tried to kill him to show him that anyone he knew could try to murder him. To condition or teach his son to always be on his toes. John lost it in the end. His mind. His reason. He was irrational by the end of retirement. Irrational, paranoid and perhaps a bit psychotic. And his son ended up being the witness to it, not the victim of it. Though maybe some people would move that around and say Grant was the victim of his father’s crazy. Grant on the other hand. Well most people think he has come out of that situation quite well. In fact most of them think he’s more capable than John. That he might succeed where his father had failed. Grant went to the academy, to follow in his father’s footsteps. In a way those that knew his father tried to encourage Grant of the good qualities of John before he went mad. Grant didn’t really care either way who John was because John was John. Grant was Grant. And Grant would succeed higher than his father. Grant would take all the things he had learned from his childhood and use it towards this future of Investigator. When his exams were up, Grant naturally passed the General exams with flying colors, well above some of his peers. But Grant barely passed the physical exams, slightly below average in his scores, and had difficulty with the strength test. He had never been really good at gaining much weight or muscle like some of the others. But he made up for it in his intellectual abilities. He’s been praised in the past by his mentors and has been noted to have at least killed twelve Ghouls in his career lifetime. But Grant is not satisfied at being just a First Class Investigator, that is not good enough. He aims to be a Special Class before he has decided to retire. He’s already hit the hallmark of being First Class before he turned thirty, but he was already pushing close to thirty when he did.
