[u]Personality[/u]
Kiera has never been a very... obviously personable person. She would listen to the adults rather than play tag, or read at recess. But whenever one of the other kids had a problem, they would take it to Kiera. She would listen to and mediate arguments, never really feeling much, but whatever. She made it through Middle and High School this way, climbing out mostly unscathed. Of course there were bullies. That was a given. But Keira avoided them, for the most part.

When she got to college, she was put in a room with perhaps the bubbliest person she'd ever met, and he quickly became her best friend. Although they are almost opposites in chatty levels, Alex is one of only two people in the world who Kiera will start a conversation with, as opposed to waiting for the conversation to come to her.

[u]Background[/u]
Keira grew up in the slums of a college town, learning to tune out the sound of drunken parties and wild rages and bar crawls. Kiera was the daughter of a single mother. When she was seven, her mother married a doctor who loved them both very much. He helped Kiera pay for college and pay for the apartment she shares with Alex.  He would take her to the hospital, and she always loved the look on his face when he got done helping a patient. It was then that she decided she wanted a job that made her as happy as his job did. Her mother was a professional potter who loved her craft but put her life on hold when her daughter was born. Kiera hadn't really wanted to become a doctor, but between her step-father and a sudden realization when she got to college, she fell in love with the profession.
