The Revenant

Race: Undead (Formerly Human) Sex: Male Age: 272. (Physically 42) Personality: Lorne is a person of many extremes, mercurial, you could call him. On one hand, he is duty-bound and loyal, but also easily distracted and often unwilling to actually do what is asked of him. He is usually unfailingly polite and formal, but has moments of surprising light-heartedness. Lorne's unfailing loyalty is perhaps a result of his current undead status, or perhaps just a part of his personality that he had even before, only the man himself knows. One thing that everyone knows about Lorne, is that despite his unfailing loyalty to those he trusts or who he has an obligation to serve, Lorne is incredibly and consistently incredibly greedy, willing to steal even from his most trusted friends just for a few hundred dollars. Biography Lorne was born in the far western land of Revoy to a merchant family. As a young man, Lorne entered Revoy's famed ranger academy in an attempt to become one of the land's elite troops, and was successful in his attempt, even if he only barely succeeded. Lorne's tenure as a ranger was long and storied, he traveled the world, served alongside some of Revoy's most famous figures, and most importantly, married into the royal family after ascending to the title "Master of the Forests", leader of all of Revoy's rangers. He was granted nobility through said title, and during a ball, met Lady Orenna, daughter of the King of Revoy. They were married not six months later. Lorne lived a life of luxury and contentment, eventually siring five children, one of whom would later become King himself, though the circumstances that he attained said title were rather heartbreaking. During a normal day at court, a long-thought dead relative of the royal family attacked the royal castle, killing the king and the entire royal family, including Lorne's beloved wife and three of his children. Lorne fought hard against the usurper, in a duel so grand that most others could do little but watch as the two men danced their deadly dance. Unfortunately, one slash struck home, slashing Lorne's neck wide open. The usurper took the crown and left the court-room, leaving Lorne to die. Which he did, quite quietly too. Lorne's time as an endlessly loyal, if not dependable, servant of the crown, had quite an impact on his eldest surviving son, Nunen, who honored his father's memory by slaying the usurper and taking the throne back. And that's a bittersweet but happy enough ending to this story, right? Not quite. Lorne's life returned to him not a year after his death, resurrected by a necromancer apprentice who was attempting to betray the lich who he squired for. Lorne, owing his life to the man, swore to serve him as ably as possible for as long as he did live. Lorne proved invaluable to the necromancer in finally slaying the horrid lich, and became a trusted and able servant, attaining artifacts and assassinating troublesome meddlers for the benevolent master of death, even being allowed to keep many of said artifacts. Lorne served as such for two centuries, before the old and dying necromancer gave one last request to his immortal servant, fixing him with an amulet of eternal life as a reward. "Find your daughter." His daughter? But she was among those killed in the court massacre, unless... he had resurrected her too! He had to find her! Lorne thanked his dying master, and promised to honor his last request, before heading out east on a quest into the depths of his past. Ability: Lorne is skilled in marksmanship and swordplay, and has a number of magical artifacts in his possession to aid him in sticky situations. As a zombie, he is also functionally immortal unless his head is destroyed.
