Not all of the time, but it is a safe bet that one will find an article of headwear on or about him. The style may alter from form to form, or depending upon the type of garb he exhibits. Mostly, it is a brimmed item in varying states of wholeness or distress. His hat aside, he is fond of timeless fashions, including long jackets, leather, jeans, long sleeve, button up collared shirts. He constantly looks like he had slept in his clothes or has been working hard recently. Hair is almost always worn long and unbound, though it is somewhat restrained by his hats, when applicable. Facial hair is a must for any occasion. Strangely though, it will vary from being long and developed one day, to being barely more than stubble, and then a thick goatee in record time. Oct 31st, 1943 Attire: Gil is attired in a pair of decent quality dark grey slacks, thinly pinstriped, with matching vest that he unapologetically leaves unbuttoned. Underneath the vest lays a perpetually untucked button-down dress shirt, the sleeves long since missing, with the top few buttons generally unused. Around his neck is an untied burgundy ascot/scarf made of silk. For footwear, we maintains a good quality and careworn pair of once-black work boots. The entire ensemble can be covered by a black, wool blend overcoat that seems to vary in level of distress from hour to hour. And finally, The Hat wears a hat. Much of the time it's akin to a gentleman's fedora, though variations of stetson are not uncommon. Personality: A generally intellectual and easygoing guy, he wasn't always this way. Apparently, when you live through almost every age of civilized humanity from the point of view of a militant, it colors things. Countless lifetimes have taught him the value of letting the little things go. There's just no point. He is fairly informal and more than a little irreverent, but endearingly so. Of course, he is no pushover. He has been a conqueror and slayer of men for a very long time now. While he is slow to anger, he is a ruthless combatant and shrewd tactician. Gilbert does not shirk from battle in the slightest, viewing the application of violence as one of the possible means to achieve an end. Though immortal in pretty much every sense of the word, he has been known to show honor by withdrawing from a battle if defeated fairly or with truly inspired subterfuge. More recent centuries have seen a considerable mellowing of Gilbert. War for its own sake has taken a backseat to more intellectual pursuits, and his history of unprecedented travel has given him an amazing amount of respect for Humanity and the world, despite Humanity's inability to learn from most of its mistakes. For the longest time, he was content to let the world continue on its way without his influence. The world seems to have other intentions. His exploits on the battlefield became as legend, wielding a great club and wearing the hides of lions. While these stories have become greater than history can maintain, there remains the fact that a legendary warrior became a legendary King, and was called Gilgamesh by his people. Stories of an oral tradition have a way of covering over the facts. What came to be of Gilgamesh is still unclear, but it is said that, in this time, he was caught in a great flood that consumed everything it touched. The man woke with lungs full of water, smashed upon a mountainside next to a great, ruined barge that once contained people he cared about. He should have been dead. Everybody else was, drowned and twisted by the water and unforgiving rocks. There was no reason why he was not. But he could not return to what remained of his home with a story of "Yeah that big flood that wiped out everything? Shrugged it off." His desire to remain undetected but return home oddly manifested in his appearance altered somewhat. Still a new ability for him, it was just different enough to allow him to pass as a younger relative. He returned to Uruk to rule as his own son, but myth twisted his newer exploits into something more resembling the truth, for once: It was still attributed to Gilgamesh. The sudden rush of consciousness was a difficult thing to grasp, at first. He began to realize things that had occurred well before his birth. The sum of human history to date, and the utter repetition of it shocked him. Logic dictated that his kingdom would fall eventually, and he was destined to live for a long, long time. Gilgamesh built the walls that surrounded Uruk to better protect his people, installed another ruler to take his place, and abdicated the throne, going back to what he knew best in his already long lifetime: Predicting trouble and rushing to join it. Favorite Era: There have been a few eras that Gilbert found to be particularly enlightening, but if he had to pick one, it would be the two hundred or so years of the Sengoku Period of Japan (Circa 1400 to 1600 AD). It marked the only period in time where he kept himself upon a single, isolated island chain for that long of a period, simply soaking in the culture. The fact that it was during a period of near constant warfare meant no nevermind, either. It was a time which saw the rise of a people, many of whom strove for complete perfection of a single task or skill. When that skill was soldiery, things got interesting. They were poets as well as swordsmen, artists as well as soldiers. Even the rise of the Yakuza was worth viewing, for what good and bad it accomplished. This was a time of philosophy, art, architecture, all blended seamlessly with glorious combat under the banner or feudal honor. Utter chaos interspersed with Codes of Honor. The best and worst of a civilization occurring simultaneously. When the state stabilized under a single, powerful Shogunate, Gilbert realized that they, like humanity in general, had the potential for something more profound. Maybe he did, too. Finding Another: I forget exactly, but I believe it was sometime during the end of the third or beginning of the second century B.C. in what is now Greece. It was Eve. I cannot say very much about the experience more than it was a sort of ...knowing... about one another. Almost immediately afterward, I met Drem. We did not get along quite as well. Disagreements on matters of honor and obligation, things of this nature. It kept Eve and myself from pursuing a more open friendship. As much as I felt a pull toward these people, other things drew my presence. It was as if there were things that I needed to learn, before I could take my place among the immortals properly. But the pull kept at me, and throughout the history of countless ages, I always returned to where they were. Or sometimes, where they used to be. I would know." The relationship between these two is understated, probably because of their history. They share a mutual love of strategy, often playing chess purely from memory, and can speak honedtly with each other without pretense. Their friendship has blossomed since the passing of The Glasses, mostly because there was more than a little tension between he and Gilbert that got in the way.
💛/🙇 The Cards 🙇/💛 "Nancy and I are the only two people left who truly remember Uruk, let alone Sumeria. She serves to remind me of this. Sometimes it is uncomfortable, remembering what I was. Sometimes it is not." Nancy was originally a citizen of Uruk, the long ruined city-state that Gilbert once ruled. Reminders of the past aren't always welcome, though. Gil tries to act as a big brother to his fellow Emendator, even of she is only a thousand or so years younger than himself. At the same time, he does not want to press the issue and make a complicated issue awkward. He does his job, she does hers, and occasionally they even find time to be friendly.
🙇 The Hat 🙇 "The world shouldn't need someone like me anymore." Gilbert's sin is Pride. Or it was. Hell, maybe it still is. Before he was an Emendator, he was the original action hero, Gilgamesh of Uruk. The King of Heroes, the Ultimate Warrior, the Great Ruler of Sumeria. When he found out what he really was, he put it behind him and simply toured the world, learning what he could. Now he's more of a historian, living in an isolated corner of nowhere in Louisiana, of all places, in the Nineteen Frigging Forties. Anymore, Gil is the resident "Swiss Army Hat" and the group's tactician. He has become much more philosophical and introspective, often questioning the nature of his, and others' existence.
💛 The Watch 💛 "Fellow soldier, once upon a time. Odd man, but an interesting conversationalist." These two don't see eye to eye fully, but they have an amount of military history in common. Gio's more flippant nature gives him just enough to disagree with to make their talks more interesting.
🎆/♨️ The Glasses ♨️/🎆 "His passing implies many uncomfortable things." Tense best describes the relationship between Gilbet and Drem. The Glasses was the first line of defense. He believes that Drem constantly shirked a heavy, noble responsibility, and he kept leaving for parts unknown for little adventures. Gil left for spans of time as well; generally for a purpose. Losing him puts the rest of the group at tactical disadvantage.

Paradoxes

💛 Alicia Gonzalez 💛 "I know of her family - I would have loved to have fought her father when he was at his best. She is a warrior, from a warrior line spanning ages. I'll get her back there." If there ever was a regret Gilbert had concerning the Paradoxes, it is Alicia. Not for anything he has done, but for Fate for assigning her the role she plays as a Paradox. While he takes the cool, laid-back position of a mentor with her, in reality, he wants to help her re-assume her former badassedness. It's in her. She can be both a Gonzalez and a Paradox if she wants it. To that end, he has cultivated a friendship with Alicia, trains her, and keeps dropper-feeding her information and familiarity with combat as she helps him clean and organize his armory.
