While some of this is from a comfort factor, given how much she prefers a pair of jeans over a corset, it mostly stems from the fashion of the clothing itself. She loves the rustic influence on the clothing that's appropriate to wear out in the Black, but she also adores the large hair in the 80's. The more she can express herself and her own moods with clothing, the better. However, that doesn't mean that Nancy neglects the fashion of the times. Instead, she simply tries to find the clothing combinations that allow her to feel the most like herself. In the 1940's, this simply means keeping her hair curly and leaving it down, rather than pinning it up. In earlier periods, such as the 1700's and 1800's, perhaps it means avoiding corsets at any cost in favor of dresses that are (in her opinion) much more tasteful and allow for her to breathe. As far as accessories go, Nancy used to love wearing earrings. However, she's becoming more and more drawn to wearing a bunch of bracelets at one time. She tends to go through a series of phases when it comes to accessories, only moving onto the next one when she grows tired of the current one. For example, she once had a scarf phase, trying her very hardest to find a scarf that would blend in with whatever time period she was in. She loves practical jokes and has a lighthearted nature. While some may mistake her as being childlike or naive, that isn't the case at all. She has seen plenty throughout her life and does not wish to dwell on those sort of things. It's better to focus on the present (whenever/wherever that present is) and enjoy it, as it may not last as long as you'd like. Yet at the same time, she keeps her cards (pun intended) close to the vest. She isn't one to be open and honest about deeper emotions, like love and pain. Additionally, Nancy may be the Cards, but she lives for the moment she is in currently. She has seen enough of what could be to know that if she dwelled on only that, she would go mad. She is neither optimistic nor pessimistic about what may come to be - whatever comes will come. It's not set in stone and while they can take actions to improve things for the better, those same actions could change things for the worse. She's a realist at her core, but do not mistake her as being apathetic about the future. She is also a rather curious person. For example, while she is an Emendator, she loves reading accounts of supposedly haunted places. Conspiracy theories similarly interest her. While they rarely ever directly impact her, there's something whimsical about them that she just adores. There are occasions where she sits by herself and contemplates the question, but more often than not, it simply doesn't bother her. She has other potentially real potentially unreal things to worry about that are more important. As for religion itself, she views it mostly as a coping mechanism for individuals. If people need something to help them process their grief, so be it. If it works for them, it works for them. She can't judge someone for basing their decisions off of what could be - that would be hypocritical of her. For the most part, religion gives her a sour taste in her mouth when it becomes more than a coping mechanism and brings pain to others. These events can be in the present, the past, or the future. They can also occur for any timeline. Each card flipped tells part of the story. It can be very clear and to the point or even vague. It will depend on circumstance, if she is actually looking for something specific, or if just checking to check.
Psychosis - The ability to cause a violent psychotic reaction in a victim. The victim will rant, rave, and attack everyone they meet. This skill also doubles the strength of the victim under the abilities influence. The Emendator cannot control a person they have inflicted with this madness. The psychosis will wear off eventually but there is never any knowledge of how long that will be. Could be minutes, could be hours.
History - Knowledge of a particular time period and area. (General Human History)
Bow - The ability to fire long and short bows, composite bows, and crossbows
Breakaway - The ability to twist out of someone's grasp. It was Sumer in the mid eleventh century B.C. I lived in the Euphrates River Valley in a city-state called Uruk. It was a patriarchal time...but that's not unusual in itself, now is it? Anyways, I was supposed to marry this man. Marriages were arranged back then between the parents, often times like a business transaction. They had contracts that were signed on the clay tablets, as if it was an exchange of livestock... I didn't want to marry him, but I didn't have much choice. He was old and influential - an ideal match back then for anyone wanting to marry off a mouthy young woman. I thought initially that I might be able to bear it or that I'd simply flee, but after the ceremony, he took me to his home. Some of his friends were there and...You know what, I really don't want to talk about this...They made advances, practically taking turns. I did what I had to do, but I didn't understand what was happening at the same time. My fear turned into something else and I looked my husband in the eye. I felt something strange in my fingertips and not more than seconds later, my husband had turned into a madman. He attacked everything in his sight, with strength that was impossible for him to possess. I escaped with this lengthy scar - the other men were not so lucky - and the understanding that I had inflicted the psychosis upon him. I suddenly knew things that I never had before and I understood that my purpose was to be more than some old man's bride." Favorite Era: "Hmmm...Of the times that I have lived through and experienced, the Viking Age was the most magnificent. I went by Torunn Mikkeldatter back in those days, living in what you know as Denmark, and I have fond memories of seeing the ships before the raids. People often view the Vikings harsher than really is deserved...Most peoples, throughout history, expand at one point, often violently. Yet that does not mean nothing good can come. There was exploration and discovery on each voyage! Little by little, the mysteries of other lands were uncovered... But of course, I did love the power women had. No arranged marriages - that's something I adore. Women had strength that they were often denied in other cultures. The society itself was rather democratic as well. I love a fair bit of chaos, but I can appreciate the rules and structures that keep a civilization going. So many grow and so many fall - it's often tricky to get a society right. It was a shame what happened...I won't bore you with the details, but I ended up having to put someone under a spell of psychosis. Those type of situations come up from time to time, you know? Can't be helped. At any rate, someone noticed and I had to think quickly. I put together a story that I was actually Loki - the god of mischief in Norse society - in order to avoid being killed. Understandably, they instructed me to return to Asgard and face Odin's judgment. That was when I met Gio, funnily enough. He told everyone to go home and they did. We went to Italy after that. The Renaissance wasn't half bad but the Viking Age...Nothing can compare to it." Finding Another: "If you find this hard to believe, I'm a bit shocked, but I have been reading the cards for suggestions as to where to relocate to for a long time before I met another Emendator. I was living in Italy at the time with the Watch and during my readings, I noticed the Kingdom of Scotland becoming a bit of a reoccurring theme. Having spent five or six odd centuries in one country, I have to admit, I was enticed by the idea of a change of scenery... Anywho, the most effective way to get to Scotland back then was by sea. We made our way out to the coast. Pirates were a bit of a problem and the coast was largely abandoned, so getting passage wasn't easy by any means - this was the end of the Golden Age of Piracy. Most people opted to take an overland route - even if the overall risk is about the same and the length is exhausting. Pirates, though, they sometimes looked for new crew members along the coast. We were in one of those port towns when I saw him. I didn't need a reading or anything really to recognize that he was like me. It was just something I knew instinctively - and it was thrilling to know that there were more people out there just like us. Yet he also saw something that I couldn't - the Destruere. Alban - you wouldn't have met the Glasses... - he took us to Scotland for safety. It was there that I met Caoimhe - Eve - for the first time. There's no doubt in my mind that I was drawn to my fellow Emendators. Yet at the same time, it's a bit funny, isn't it? I thought I was simply seeking out Scotland. I found more than I expected..." Overview Of Life:

11th Century B.C. - Sumer/Uruk
10th/4th Century B.C. - Ancient Egypt/Thebes
3rd Century B.C. - Celts/Tylis
2nd/1st Century B.C. - Kingdom of Pontus/Callatis
1st/5th Century A.D. - Roman Britain/Jutes/Saxons/Isle of Wight
6th/9th Century A.D. - Scandinavia/Denmark
11th/16th Century A.D. - Italy
17th/18th Century A.D. - Kingdom Of Scotland
19th Century A.D. - England/Yorkshire

Extras
Character Quote:

"Just because something isn't in the cards doesn't mean it cannot one day be." While Eve adores rules and order, Nancy is a fan of randomness and chaos. She thrives on unpredictability. Originally, this tension between the two Emendators came out mostly when it came to Drem. Nancy didn't view herself as encouraging his behavior - she was just being his friend. With Drem dead, the tension between the two has grown. While Nancy respects Eve, she hates the way Eve looks at her sometimes. To her, it's like Eve is blaming Nancy for what happened to Drem.
🙇 The Cards 🙇 "Maybe one day I'll be something more, but for now...I am who I am." Nancy understands why others can perceive her as chaotic and impulsive. A majority of her decisions, if not informed by the cards, come down to her own sense of whimsy. Perhaps she will one day grow out of it but given that millennia have come and gone, yet she remains constant, Nancy believes her personality is rather set in stone. She isn't going to change her mannerisms to match another's idea of what an Emendator should be.
💛/🙇 The Hat 💛/🙇 "Let's not talk about Uruk." Nancy doesn't have a problem with Gilbert himself - it's more the occasional reminders of a time in her life that she would much prefer to forget. Growing up in Uruk, everyone knew of the legendary Gilgamesh. She cannot help but associate Gilbert with her old home and the horrible events that came to pass there. However, Nancy does understand his 'big brotherly' type antics - she looks fairly young to be an Emendator, having become conscious at a physically young age. Maybe one day she'll be able to properly appreciate that in Gilbert, but for now, the occasional moments of friendliness are the defining trait for the pair.
💜/💕 The Watch 💜/💕 "While the Emendators are family as a rule, Giouse would be my family regardless." Ever since Giouse and Nancy met in Denmark centuries ago, the two have traveled together. They have a prank war between the two of them, with no clear end in sight. They both adore science-fiction, with Nancy even acting as an editor for Giouse's writings. They're a natural pair and if Nancy ever were to open up to anyone (which in itself is unlikely), it would be Giouse.
💛 The Glasses 💛 "I never expected that adventure would be our last." After Giouse, Drem was Nancy's favorite Emendator. She understands and shares his wanderlust, his drive to head towards new and exciting things, to enjoy life rather than just attempt to preserve it. Her chaotic nature worked well with his. His passing hurt Nancy, as she lost someone she felt a spiritual kinship with. If only they had had time for one more adventure.

Paradoxes

💛/🙇 Alicia Gonzalez 💛/🙇 "More fun, less head-prying, okay?" Nancy enjoys Alicia's company, for the most part. Her contributions to the long standing prank war between Nancy and Gio have been welcome, since they helped to break the routine some. Yet when matters between the pair of them turn serious, Nancy wants none of it. Her emotions and her thoughts are private. She understands Alicia only wants to help, but that doesn't mean Nancy decides to be emotionally honest with her.
