Venyamin and Thengaree. An unspeakable creature was sighted on the outskirts of town. Venyamin was approached by several members of the town, in order to find and eliminate the monster. He returned with a broken-off limb as proof of its death; though only he and one other knew that he had not killed the 'giant bug'. And a favour for a favour - whilst swimming across the water, Thenagree spots a somewhat familiar face stuck on a rock. Perhaps he needs passage back to better land?
Venyamin and Hatori. The Emperor across the sea has put out a bounty on any and all samurai. Members of the Guild have taken the job, and one of Venyamin's cohorts has discovered the location of one. Venyamin tries to get there first, to warn the samurai, but is attacked when Hatori misunderstands his words. Both masters of their craft, a battle ensues, and both are impressed by the other's skill. A bond is forged, then. Venyamin promised to escort him to the guild, and present their case, to put a bounty on the Emperor's head instead. Only to have their ship leave the two of them stranded on an island.
Venyamin and Dengi. Not exactly a match-up, but they have a shared history. Bounty hunting and mercenary work aren't too far apart, after all. They've competed for marks, on occasion, and may even acknowledge one another. They wouldn't call it friendship, just... acquainted colleagues.
This may apply to either Venyamin and Zeku, or Venyamin and Fix Tale. Venyamin encounters the 2-foot high being unexpectedly, and they're obviously a little bit lost/in trouble. Clearly, they're not the most socially skilled. Not to say he is, either, but oh well. They're slightly annoying with all these facts and questions, but he'll make sure they get to their desired place (inn, ship, etc.), for his own peace of mind, and then get them out of his hair. Of course, that doesn't happen. (You could figure something out for the rock before or after, maybe from their companion realising he's not on the boat they both got on.)
Zeku and Thenagree. Outcast creatures, not truly meeting the status quo for 'acceptable' appearances, Thenagree draws attention to himself when Zeku is being forced out of the tavern - and suffered for it, as they turned on him instead. It also put Zeku under scrutiny for being an 'ally' of the creature. What would happen if Zeku were to stumble into an orchard?
Zeku and Brass. Shortly after winning his game - to the rage of his opponent, who left shortly after handing his coin over. At which point, Brass notices a disturbance from the tavern owner. He's currently harassing a small lizard person - an Uron - for not having the right currency. Not seeing this as sufficient reason to eject someone from the establishment, he steps in, newly-won coin in hand.
Zeku and Fix Tale. A chance of fate causes these two small people to both be at the same inn, briefly before Zeku is forced from the establishment. Fix's naivety only worsens the situation when she steps in, and both of them are left without a shelter for the night. However, Fix is used to the forest, and quickly helps find them a place to stay in a small bit of woodland outside of town.
Dengi and Brass. - Option One: Dengi is Brass' opponent. They're in a bit of a tense game, because both have bet what little coin they have on the match. Brass isn't exactly used to dwarves, so he may have judged a little harshly. Dengi probably thinks Brass hasn't, well, earned his brass, given he's quite young. If they pooled their resources, however, they could get along a little better.
Option 2: Seeking out the tavern in a new town, in hopes of at least being able to pay for a corner in the main room, Dengi is currently drinking at the bar. Brass, not long after his win against his opponent, is forced outside by the man and two other thugs. Most others appear not to notice, or deliberately ignore this. Dengi, suspicious, follows and sees them attempting to threaten Brass, who is keeping his cool. Drawing the thugs' attention, Dengi tells them to back off - and after a brief exchange, Brass and Dengi disable the three. Turns out they're part of a gang that are quite powerful in the surrounding villages Since they're already both in trouble for this, why not stick together a little while longer?

Dengi and Hatori. Hatori is searching for allies, and happens to come across a mercenary who, despite being of questionable morals, seems to be a powerful and honourable warrior. He makes Dengi a promise of coin in return for sticking alongside him until the Emperor is defeated.
Brass and Hatori. Similar to Option 2 from above, except there would be the option of Hatori being the one who gets in trouble, for being a foreigner. Brass intervenes. As the two step aside, the honourable samurai finds himself getting along with the trickster. He might not be totally honourable, but... he does have honour. Explaining his plight, Brass admits he isn't as selfish as he ought to be, and agrees to stick with him.
These are just from what I understand of everyone's characters. Might be wrong, might be right, you never know. But, those are a few match-ups I came up with.
