I can actually shed some light on that. 
So basically the idea of the final as an English major is subject to change depending on the class and the professor. Some prefer a final paper and some an actual written test. 
I say this because we are in the same school and share a class even, which is why I haven't crafted my character myself yet either. 
I believe the final test will be December 18, but most other papers are/will be due sometime prior to that, not counting any possible extensions. Still though, basically, by the 18th, we should be done. Though I'm hoping to get my character up before then.
