Apparent Age: Early 40s Birthday: November 5th, 1968 Nationality: American Birth Place: Leesburg, GA, United States Gender: Male Native Language: English, Redneck

Appearance
Height: 6'0" Weight: 230 Build: Laborer's Build Eyes: Brown, rectangular Hair: Black, coarse, kept very short Skin Tone: Snipes-y Chestnut Tattoos/Scars/Piercings: Many small scars, a couple of big ones from tusk gorings. Personal Style: James keeps a casual yet functional style of dress, the kind that is equally suited to physical labor or hitting the local watering hole. Carpenter's jeans and overalls with tool loops and pockets are a must. He is also fond of plaid flannel button-down shirts (sleeves optional) under which he layers a standard white t-shirt or tank style undershirt. With him as usual is a tan cowboy hat, under which he will sometimes tie a bandanna around his head. If it is not around his head, rest assured that one is somewhere nearby. Bright days see him in wraparound sunglasses, and cold ones have him in a brown leather jacket with fuzzy white lining. James's hair is kept short, almost non-existent in point. He maintains facial hair, but keeps it just long enough to be noticeable. Jewelry is not a priority for the man as he tends to stay away from anything that might get in the way of his work or look horribly garish (not that he'd ever use a word like "garish"), though a well meaning token is appreciated. Relationship Status: Between involvements. Far between involvements. Personality: He is BLACK MOTHERFUCKING MANDINGO JAMES, BITCHES. Sorry... James is an open, good natured, black, pagan redneck. He's a trustworthy individual, adapted well to surviving on his own despite the risk he takes for himself, but really finds his best when he's with people. James is a larger-than-life, bombastic individual. Always a smartassed remark on standby, but also an intelligent observation backing it up. He's a great guy (just ask him), just a little odd, is all. Dangerous, too, unless you're counted among his friends. He genuinely loves to laugh, though the reasons for it are less nowadays. Habits: Never eats past 8 p.m., bites nails Hobbies: Smoking meat, growing things Religion: Agnostic Pagan/Protestant. It's odd. James was raised a good Southern Baptist, but didn't really get into it. It's hard to nail down exactly what his beliefs are, but he's been out and about in nature to give it reverence. James believes something is out there, but has not committed to a solid ideology. Fears:

Spiders
Quicksand
Cuttlefish (saw a documentary as a kid, freaked him out a bit)
Likes:

Red Velvet Cake
Wrestling
Comic Books
Martial Arts Movies
Goth Girls
Fishing
Dislikes:

Caucasians in white hoods
Fools (He pities them, you see.)
Overly positive people
Stupidity
The Song That Never Ends
Venereal Diseases
Running (unless he has to)

Cards On The Table
Skills:

What Is On Your Person:

Residence:

History
How did your character die?: James Grady dies as a result of random misadventure, period. Wrong place, wrong time. After being exiled from his home for the killing of another resident (extenuating circumstances), James and three others made it as far as a mile or so south to a warehouse to resupply. An interesting coincidence had them meeting up with a pair of very singular women IN A TANK, discussing the fate of mutual friends of theirs. When the leader and a newer addition to the settlement they had just left noticed tank tracks close to their home, they followed them to investigate, leading them down to the meeting in progress. Before many words could be traded, a lime sink opened the ground in the area, destroying the town and ripping cracks open for a long way around. James was caught in one such crack as it opened, dropping him into the sharp rocks below. His death was arbitrary and without discernible meaning. What Brought You Here: For the questionable decisions that James has made, he always had the best intentions of his friends and family at heart. But the fact remains that he killed a man that was not directly threatening him. Maybe he deserved to die, but that wasn't his call. He expected to be executed for his crime, and was willing to pay that price if it meant that his people were safe from the man that he killed. Just before he died, he had agreed to accompany a traveler to launch an assault on a nearby settlement that had been harassing them for a long time, resulting in many casualties and hardships. For whatever reason, two others joined them, but not to help with the attack - they did so out of friendship. James lived the last couple of years of his life doing nothing but trying to keep his people (who he refers to as family) safe and fed. Even exiled, he wanted to make sure that this other group wouldn't hurt them anymore, even if he died in the process. His random, pointless death denied him this, and denied him any chance of reconciliation with his family one day. It robbed him of purpose. James wasn't done protecting his people. Does your character want peace: James is a good man who has made mistakes and performed questionable moral actions. These mistakes gnaw at him, giving no small amount of guilt that for the most part, he merely accepts as who he is. Despite his best efforts to protect and care for his loved ones, he feels like he is losing a war of attrition against forces beyond his control. His more graphic and violent decisions are partly based out of desperation stemming from this. James does desire peace, greatly. Unfortunately, he does not feel that he deserves it yet.
