[@Muttonhawk] I don't have a list, but like you I know the pattern without necessarily knowing the rule. I have no idea what intransitive and transitive verbs are, let alone those labariostransititiveiaigjfjf...sos..h..elp verbs you mentioned later. But wouldn't you be able to identify these words anyway? I mean, raise and rose are two very different words in my mind. I would write, 'he raised his hand', but I wouldn't write, 'he rose his hand'. I would write, 'he laid the body on the table,' but I wouldn't write, 'he lied the body on the table'. You don't necessarily need to be able to recite these pairs to know when to use one or the other, no? But then again, I haven't looked up what transitive and intransitive verbs are, so I might be speaking gibberish for all I know.
