Apparent Age: Early 40s Birthday: November 5th, 1968 Nationality: American Birth Place: Leesburg, GA, United States Gender: Male Native Language: English, Redneck, Russian

Appearance
Height: 6'0" Weight: 230 Build: Laborer's Build Eyes: Brown, rectangular Hair: Black, coarse, kept very short Skin Tone: Snipes-y Chestnut Tattoos/Scars/Piercings: Many small scars, a couple of big ones from tusk gorings. Personal Style: James keeps a casual yet functional style of dress, the kind that is equally suited to physical labor or hitting the local watering hole. Carpenter's jeans and overalls with tool loops and pockets are a must. He is also fond of plaid flannel button-down shirts (sleeves optional) under which he layers a standard white t-shirt or tank style undershirt. With him as usual is a tan cowboy hat, under which he will sometimes tie a bandanna around his head. If it is not around his head, rest assured that one is somewhere nearby. Bright days see him in wraparound sunglasses, and cold ones have him in a brown leather jacket with fuzzy white lining. James's hair is kept short, almost non-existent in point. He maintains facial hair, but keeps it just long enough to be noticeable. Jewelry is not a priority for the man as he tends to stay away from anything that might get in the way of his work or look horribly garish (not that he'd ever use a word like "garish"), though a well meaning token is appreciated. Relationship Status: Between involvements. Far between involvements. Personality: He is BLACK MOTHERFUCKING MANDINGO JAMES, BITCHES. Sorry... James is an open, good natured, black, pagan redneck. He's a trustworthy individual, adapted well to surviving on his own despite the risk he takes for himself, but really finds his best when he's with people. James is a larger-than-life, bombastic individual. Always a smartassed remark on standby, but also an intelligent observation backing it up. He's a great guy (just ask him), just a little odd, is all. Dangerous, too, unless you're counted among his friends. He genuinely loves to laugh, though the reasons for it are less nowadays. Habits: Never eats past 8 p.m., bites nails Hobbies: Smoking meat, growing things Religion: Agnostic Pagan/Protestant. It's odd. James was raised a good Southern Baptist, but didn't really get into it. It's hard to nail down exactly what his beliefs are, but he's been out and about in nature to give it reverence. James believes something is out there, but has not committed to a solid ideology. Wrong place, wrong time. After being exiled from his home for the killing of another resident (extenuating circumstances), James and three others made it as far as a mile or so south to a warehouse to resupply. An interesting coincidence had them meeting up with a pair of very singular women IN A TANK, discussing the fate of mutual friends of theirs. When the leader and a newer addition to the settlement they had just left noticed tank tracks close to their home, they followed them to investigate, leading them down to the meeting in progress. Before many words could be traded, a lime sink opened the ground in the area, destroying the town and ripping cracks open for a long way around. James was caught in one such crack as it opened, dropping him into the sharp rocks below. His death was arbitrary and without discernible meaning. What Brought You Here: For the questionable decisions that James has made, he always had the best intentions of his friends and family at heart. But the fact remains that he killed a man that was not directly threatening him. Maybe he deserved to die, but that wasn't his call. He expected to be executed for his crime, and was willing to pay that price if it meant that his people were safe from the man that he killed. Just before he died, he had agreed to accompany a traveler to launch an assault on a nearby settlement that had been harassing them for a long time, resulting in many casualties and hardships. For whatever reason, two others joined them, but not to help with the attack - they did so out of friendship. James lived the last couple of years of his life doing nothing but trying to keep his people (who he refers to as family) safe and fed. Even exiled, he wanted to make sure that this other group wouldn't hurt them anymore, even if he died in the process. His random, pointless death denied him this, and denied him any chance of reconciliation with his family one day. It robbed him of purpose. James wasn't done protecting his people. Does your character want peace: James is a good man who has made mistakes and performed questionable moral actions. These mistakes gnaw at him, giving no small amount of guilt that for the most part, he merely accepts as who he is. Despite his best efforts to protect and care for his loved ones, he feels like he is losing a war of attrition against forces beyond his control. His more graphic and violent decisions are partly based out of desperation stemming from this. James does desire peace, greatly. Unfortunately, he does not feel that he deserves it yet. Mmm hmm." Anyone who can, voluntarily or involuntarily, determine the mortal fate of others and then bring them back from the dead in a form that acquires super powers is worthy of massive respect. Of course, she's also kind of a goth chick, which always helps.
๐ŸŽ† The Cards ๐ŸŽ† "I ain't tellin' nobody, promise." Nancy showed James something very personal, and gave him the Reader's Digest version of the story that went with it. That was huge. Probably a bigger learning experience than shoving him down that hill and into the pit of quicksand below.
๐ŸŽ† The Hat ๐ŸŽ† "If'n I was a five thousand year old epic badass, I'd be him. But prettier. HA!" But all bullshit aside, James has a healthy respect for Gilbert. He's not only the main historian and combat trainer, but he's damn approachable and seems to like creature comforts as much as James does. He'd like to be the guy's friend, eventually. Though James may have gone a bit too far with their first big training day, and hopes that Gil isn't the grudge carrying type.
๐ŸŽ† The Watch ๐ŸŽ† "Book report? Seriously?" Okay, so it wasn't the most exciting way to start his training, but it did send the message that this wasn't going to be some action hero free-for-all. Maybe that was the point and maybe it wasn't, but the Emendators have odd ways that seem to work just fine for themselves and the people they teach. So why not? Book report it is!
The Glasses "Never met him." Heard stories, though.

Paradoxes

๐Ÿ’› Sophia Harris ๐Ÿ’› "Good to see a familiar face." James knew Sophia from their previous lives in an Undead Uprising timeline. They got along okay, but it was a pretty brief period before people started dying. In Ville au Camp, the inch of familiarity he has with her is an excellent inroad to actual friendship.
๐Ÿ™‡/๐Ÿ’“ James Grady ๐Ÿ’“/๐Ÿ™‡ "Ooh damn. This one wacky game show..." James retains his former love of himself, for the most part. There's more to it now, as the weight of his decisions just prior to his death weigh on him. The reasons why were just, but would he do it again? Is he really that type of person? Is that something to cultivate now that he's a fully realized Paradox? Yeah, he loves himself. But it's complicated. At least now he has a purpose to focus on. Oh yeah, and he turns into a hog now, so that's something new.
๐Ÿ‘‹ Faith Masters ๐Ÿ‘‹ "She's alright." Reserving few judgements for most anybody, James isn't the type to shy away because of a personality flaw or two. They're all in this together, and she hasn't done a bit of hurt or disparaging in his direction (that he's aware of). James looks forward to getting to know her better.
๐Ÿ’› Andromeda Aldrich ๐Ÿ’› "Aw, ain't she just sweet enough to kill a diabetic?" James appreciates goth women. Now, whether Andromeda fits that particular bill or not, he has formed a friendly liking for her. If it is reciprocated or goes anywhere is anyone's guess.
๐Ÿ‘‹ Alexandra Andonova ๐Ÿ‘‹ "Just chill, girl." Everybody's got their little problems. Again, who is James to begrudge a messy spot or two of character? It just seems counterproductive on the whole "Team of Paradoxes" thing and this "saving the timelines" bit. Nah. Live, let live, occasionally drink homemade spirits.
๐ŸŒ“ Bartholomew Rosecliff ๐ŸŒ“ "Hey uh, pass that salt?" That's about the most in-depth conversation that James has had with the young man. Hopefully, he will learn more about him as time progresses.

My Life Before

๐ŸŽ†/๐Ÿ’œ Ashton Holloway ๐Ÿ’œ/๐ŸŽ† "Ash? Yeah, he's a great guy. Needs to lighten up, but that gruff sumbitch cares about folks. And we care about him whether he likes it or not. He's always gonna be my Cap'n." Ash and James were genuine friends. They had little in common except for a rural upbringing and a mutual fondness for Homemade Spirits. Ash was an important influence on James, and he kept Ash together during a really rough point. As far as he's concerned, Ash is a goddamned hero. Flawed, but the best heroes are.
๐Ÿ’• Tatiana Korvo ๐Ÿ’• "She just too damn adorable to be real. And I'm okay with that." There is familial affection here. Tatiana has proven to be open and bubbly, and James found her a joy to be around. If it is possible to find family in the Apocalypse, she would be it. One huge regret is that he never got to see Tati's baby.
๐Ÿ’œ Maria Smith ๐Ÿ’œ "That's my girl! She's just like me, 'cept she's white, female, twenty years younger and a whole lot prettier. All that aside, just like me." They were best friends once. James brought Maria into Newnan a few months after he entered the community, and considered her a rare and welcome find. He did his best to impress her with his more masculine charms, to find out that that's not where her preferences lie. Regardless, they got past that little incident and mellowed into a relationship of mutual respect and trust. Her death staggered James, but eventually brought him to look after Kristina like a little sister.
๐Ÿ’œ Kristina Smith ๐Ÿ’œ "This my baby sister. She's gonna be ok." James and Maria were close. He got her little sister Kristina jobs under him in Agriculture to keep her busy and safe. Well, as safe as one can get, that day and age. James kept "Little Sister" under his wing, acting as a more comforting, guiding influence. He regrets not being able to give her a stetson and pair of overalls and take her on a Hog Hunt.
๐ŸŽ†/๐Ÿ’› Dr. Victor Bonheur ๐Ÿ’›/๐ŸŽ† "Froggy? That's my guy, right there!" It took long enough, but they had time to get to know each other. James could honestly say that he liked the man. Victor did a lot for Newnan, and James appreciated him. The fact that Froggy was a fan of James's more epicurean endeavors didn't hurt matters, either.
