[@Smiter19] The US was still neutral during this point in the war, and violation of its Neutrality Acts could result in imprisonment and loss of citizenship. There were a lot of loopholes that let US pilots join, but the most common was pretending to be Canadian. One of the most famous pilots in the Battle of Britain, [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Fiske]Billy Fiske[/url], used this excuse.
