Boggart: A Rabid Bull Mastiff. Amit was once attacked by a bull mastiff and was saved by his mother who was able to pull out her wand and use the body freezing spell on it. Amit see's it as a dog with a tail on both sides and no head, just wagging and spinning around, when casting Riddikulus. Wand: Fir Wood, Unicorn Hair Core, 11 1/2", Springy Favourite Lesson: Herbology, Amit found he had a knack for the subject, and it's one of the few he doesn't need to study consistently. Least Favourite Lesson: Defense Against the Dark Arts, Amit has always had trouble targeting living things with his magic and believes it will not be necessary in his lifetime. He's also a little bit intimidated by Professor Thorne. Extracurricular Activities: Quidditch Chaser, not the best in the school, or likely on the team. Avid member of the Gobstones Club, he even has a large collection that he carries on his person at most times. Amit recently took up Wizard's Chess and is hoping to start a club on campus to play. Appearance: Amit is 5'2" tall and weighs around 110 lbs. He has short black hair and light brown skin that both often have a fine layer of grease regardless of how often he showers. Puberty has taken it's toll on Amit, and he often has at least two small pimples on his chin, as well as a few scar marks from picking. Amit wears a pair of large brown spectacles with his school robes and a small charm around his neck in the shape of a Phoenix feather. Amit has a small gold earring on his right ear this year that he didn't have the previous year. Amit usually has his black slightly ragged school bag with a blue Gobstone branded pouch attached holding his collection of the toys. Personality: Amit was the class clown for his first two years at Hogwarts, but as he matured he's become more introverted and tried to focus on his studies. Amit isn't against having friends, but hasn't had luck in the past, in part due to being a little darker skinned than the others. This had caused him to push away from most of his heritage the previous years and focus on fitting in, going as far as to make fun of himself consistently. Amit is going into his fourth year intent on making at least one long lasting friendship and embracing his heritage more openly after his recent homecoming. Amit will spend most of his time face deep in a textbook doing his best to pass his classes or playing Gobstones, one of his few continuing hobbies from his clown days. When he's throwing stones his happy go lucky personality comes out and he will smile from ear to ear. Amit recently discovered girls and has had trouble expressing this. He often hunches over as he walks focusing on the ground in front of him. Backstory: Amit was born in India and lived there until he was 8 with his mother and father. Although he wasn't aware of the hardships in the Indian muggle world at the time, it had bled into the wizarding world where there were fears that the British Ministry of Magic was planning to exert control over India's Ministry. This caused his father to be stationed in the United Kingdom as an ambassador with the family following. Before getting his acceptance letter to Hogwarts, Amit was home schooled by his mother while his father traveled between the British Ministry of Magic and the Indian Ministry of Magic. Amit knew few other children during this time, mostly because of his mothers lack of friendships in the UK. Amit rarely played with his magic abilities before going to Hogwarts, as self control was expected from his parents. After receiving his acceptance letter to Hogwarts, Amit went to his first year. His father was able to take him to Diagon Ally while home from work, one of the few moments of quality time the two had spent together in the previous 3 years. While looking for his textbooks, Amit's father was called to return to the ministry. Amit who felt rushed, yelled at his father insisting that his mother should have brought him instead because "she actually cares about me." His father yelled back and the two argued in the street until his father forced him to return home without all his school items. His father ended up bringing what was left the next day. The two would speak very little for the next 2 years, mostly through Amit's mother. It wasn't clear who was in the wrong that day, but it had brought a lot of issues to the surface. Amit still spoke to his mother regularly through owl post, and occasionally saw his father in the pages of the Daily Prophet. This recent summer Amit's mother urged his father to take Amit to India during a work trip. Amit's father agreed with some coaxing. The two didn't seem to know how to act around each other for the first month. Then Amit went with his father to their childhood home where an Occamy had taken up residence. His father dispatched it, and gave Amit a baby rat who's mother had been eaten by the magical beast. This began a conversation between the two, and they'd continue to speak over the rest of the summer, finally getting to know each other. His father walked him around the Indian Ministry and purchased him traditional dress to wear during the trip. His favorite part was visiting Hazratganj where his father purchased him a flying carpet as well as a Niranjan (a magical earing). He quickly found that he flew better on the carpet than a broom. As for the Niranjan, he isn't sure how it's supposed to make him invisible yet, but his father assured him that it indeed held that power. During an especially deep conversation, Amit's father disclosed to him how important his time at the Thuvaraiyam (India's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) had been to him, and his hopes that his son would have a similar experience at Hogwarts. This had a large focus on creating friendships that he told his son had lasted to this day, and had helped him to be successful. Amit even met some of his fathers childhood friends during the trip, including a Magi (India's term for an Auror) who gave him some pointers to help with defence against the dark arts classes. When Amit returned home at the end of the summer, he barely had time to make it to the Hogwarts Express. His mother was waiting at the station and he bid them both farewell. Extra: Amit will grow up to be the father of the Patil Twins.
