This, in turn, leads him to read a lot, especially about history and culture. As for religion, he sympathizes with the Iconoclasts (ironic for a 'Holy' warrior) in their hostility to it, but considers Dogma a power too useful to cast aside completely. He also abhors the dark gods, slavery (where it could be found), and secretly feels guilt about the actions Raelin had done as an Empire. And, despite his sympathy with the Iconoclasts, Zakar is not blind to the fact that Magitek and Industry are giving birth to weapons that may one day rival Dogma, and has come to the conclusion that a new war is on its way. But this time, he would stand in the way of such a prospect. Biography: Zakar was born in the heady days of the defeat of the Divine Beasts, to a former Priest and Priestess who had renounced the Gods in repentance for their actions during the Eidolon War. A precocious and intelligent child, Zakar was interested in all he can learn, including science, literature, and history. Kind and studious, gentle and peace-loving, it was not long before Zakar would receive a rude awakening when a criminal seeking some old Church treasures broke into his family's house and gravely wounded his parents; they survived, but Zakar had to be put under the care of an uncle who was more lenient in matters of religion. And from him, Zakar learned to question everything, including reason and the mechanics of reason, stopping only when the answers made him too uncomfortable. All in all, it was a happy life, despite the feeling that not everything was all right. He was 14 when his parents were attacked; two years later, under the guidance of his uncle, he would begin his Paladin training. When his parents heard about it, they grumbled but did not oppose it. Zakar grew and developed over the course of his lessons, and two more years later, he was allowed to go with adventuring parties as they hunted monsters. Joining the more rag-tag outfits at first, he saw that people from multiple cultures can work together very well in the right circumstances; the challenge was in creating said circumstances. In his travels, Zakar also saw that the best way to get people to work together was when faced with a common enemy or crisis, such as when the Iconoclasts defeated the Divine Beast and peace was restored to the land. He also saw how people hated each other because of cultural and nationalistic differences, and hated it; sometimes, he wished that a second Divine Beast would appear and make people stop fighting with each other. It was on a trip back to Raelin city that Zakar's uncle approached him with a revelation and an offer: The revelation was that he was a secret Dogmatist, and the offer was for Zakar to join him to unleash Hades as an Eidolon upon the world. Why would Zakar accept this? Because Zakar's uncle guessed his thoughts and feelings and knew that Hades would provide the perfect enemy to unify the world in opposition to him. Or at least, that's what he said to try and entice his nephew. But Zakar was not so far gone yet; he abhorred the Dark Gods and would have no truck with them. And so, in a great battle, Zakar's uncle fought his nephew, who had just reached his 21st birthday. Zakar won, being younger and stronger, and turned his uncle to the authorities, but doubts still remained in his mind, doubts that he was doing the right thing. So, should he follow his uncle's path himself, or should he just hope that the world won't slide down to another war without a common enemy to fight? -COMBAT- Level: 25 Class: Paladin [b]Holy Sword[/b] - Can use the Piety attribute instead of Strength to execute sword-based techniques; Strength is still needed to deal the actual damage. STATS - Strength: 6 Dexterity: 0 Mind: 0 Piety: 10 Speed: 2 Defense: 4 (+5 more with Barrier for a total of 9) Soul: 3 Equipment: Main Weapon: Blessed Sword. Off-Hand: Shield - A durable shield of metal plates that cover a light wooden core. Armor: Medium Armor - Mitigiates damage taken from Strength and Dexterity attacks by 20% Additional: Potion x3, Antidote x3 Skills: Techniques - Shield Reflection [S4] - Zakar can reflect light into an enemy's eyes with the metal plates of his shield, reducing the strength of their attacks by half his Dexterity. Power Strike [S4] - A single, powerful strike with Zakar's blessed sword that deals extra damage equal to Strength, even if Zakar [i]is[/i] already using Strength. Shield Wall [S6] - Zakar can double his Defense, which includes the bonus given by barrier, once per encounter. Stunning Blow [S4] - Zakar can inflict Paralyze on an enemy; this attack reduces damage inflicted in exchange. Spellbook - Investigation/Scan [P1] - When faced with a unique enemy (Monster or Human), Zakar can take one turn or posting round to analyze it/them for weaknesses, and in exchange for this cost, can deal [i]double[/i] his Strength on said enemy. Cure [P1] - Single target heal Cura [P5] - All-around AoE heal Curaga [P10] - Single target heal that heals allies around the target as well by half amount. Esuna [P4] - AoE cast. Protect [P4] - Adds the effects of Barrier (Half your Piety, rounded up, is added to Defense) to an ally. Shell [P4] - Reduces Magic Damage by 40% Limit Break - Braver [SD10] - Inflicts 3x damage on an enemy. Cross-Slash [SD10] - Inflicts 3x + 1/4 times damage on an enemy and inflicts paralysis. Sonic Blade [SS15] - Inflicts only 2x damage, but hits for a number of times equal to Speed. Ars Arcanum [DP15] - Adds Dexterity as well as Piety to damage, [i]then[/i] multiplies the damage by 3. Omnislash [SP25] - Hits random enemies 15 times under the effect of automatic critical hits for 3⁄4 times normal damage each hit. Opportunity - Heroic Willpower - When faced with mind control, illusons, or effects that would transform his body, such as Petrify or Frog Zakar can resist the effects of such spells once per encounter. Honorable Surrender - When fighting an enemy capable of sapient thought that in turn is overpowering him or his party, Zakar can raise his arms in surrender to elicit either pity or pragmatism in the enemy's mind, creating a chance for him to be spared. Against another player, meanwhile, Honorable Surrender forces a dialogue scene, allowing time for interaction or escape. Patron of Lost Causes - When faced with overwhelming odds [i]and[/i] the last one standing in his party, Zakar can resolve to fight on despite facing imminent loss. By doing so, his determination allows him to ignore wounds, damage, and maiming for the rest of the encounter. Note that once said encounter ends, the effects of his injuries finally set in, and he is wounded/maimed/dead afterwards. This skill works even if Zakar was always alone in the first place, without a party. [/hider]
