While Stannis Baratheon fought valiantly both against the tyrannical House Bolton and the monstrous Others, he eventually sacrificed his own daughter, Shireen, as a last ditch effort to push back the Walkers. It was unsuccessful, and Stannis died a broken man. However, one of King Robert's bastards had joined the Brotherhood Without Banners, and through his heroism was legitimized as Gendry Baratheon at the conclusion of the War for the Dawn. However, Ser Gendry was averse and ill suited to rule Storm's End, and freely abdicated to Edric Storm upon his return from hiding in Essos and retired to a life of smithing at the Crossroads Inn along the Kingsroad. Edric's reign as Lord Paramount of the Stormlands was rather plain and uneventful. For much of the first half of the 300s AC, House Baratheon was content to stay in its homeland, replenish its numbers, and reassert itself over the region. That was, until Davos Baratheon took over as the head of house. Where his father had strengthened ties with their immediate vassals, Davos came to a conclusion the rest of Westeros would take decades to come to themselves; Queen Daenerys wasn't going to name an heir, and when she inevitably came to same end as all humans do, the power vacuum left in her wake would be extraordinary, and to come out on top, the Baratheons would need the support of the other Great Houses. To this end, Lord Davos made a number of deals with the wider Realm; his elder son and heir sent to Seagard to serve under the Lord Paramount of the Trident, his second son squired at the Eyrie, and his only daughter betrothed to the now Warden of the North. He even sought a seat on the Small Council for himself and spent much of his time in the Capital, but was never appointed, to his great dismay. The biggest obstacle to Davos' plan came when his firstborn son was killed at the age of six and ten. This put the Baratheons' potential alliance with the Mallisters in jeopardy, and Davos moved swiftly to ensure such a thing was still viable. While he still had a son to spare, however, said son was hundreds of miles away in the Vale, and he was decidedly against his father's wish for a prearranged marriage. Lyonel Baratheon's time as heir to Storm's End did not start particularly well. Young and in love, he went against convention and married Rylene Redfort in a private ceremony in the Eyrie without his father, or Lord Mallister's, knowledge. To say Lords Davos and Artys were displeased when they arrived in the Vale with Lyonel's so called betrothed only to find a newly married man with a pregnant wife would be an understatement. (Davos dying here, Stepstones Rebellion, Lyonel's appointment to and service on the Small Council.)

[SUP][SUB]
House Relations
[/SUB][/SUP]

Field

[SUP][SUB]
Conceptualization
[/SUB][/SUP]

The Baratheons find themselves at a crossroads of opportunity. Where they were once rendered all but extinct by the War of the Five Kings, with Daenerys' death looming on the horizon, they stand to regain their place upon the Iron Throne of Westeros. Dominion over the Seven Kingdoms is not so easily gained, however. While the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands has made no secret of his wish to call a Great Council, his former peers on the Small Council were less than receptive of the idea. For now, the Baratheons bide their time in Storm's End.

[sub]
Point-of-View Characters
[/sub]

L y o n e l B a r a t h e o n
Lord of Storm's End Lord Paramount of the Stormlands Master of Laws on the Small Council
[SUP][SUB]
Age
[/SUB][/SUP]

43

[SUP][SUB]
Reputation
[/SUB][/SUP]

To the wider realm, Lyonel Baratheon is a celebrated hero of the Stepstones Rebellion; the Storm Lord who led his people against a tyrant who massacred the innocent and had the mercy to spare the women and children of a house that brutalized one of his most loyal vassals. His appointment to the Small Council did little to quell this adoration. Where he was already a war hero, he soon became a symbol of justice to the smallfolk of the Capital, cracking down on the corruption that ran rampant through the City Watch and bringing safety to the streets of King's Landing. To those that truly know him, Lyonel is a dutiful and just man, if a bit stubborn, and a loving husband and father to his family.

[SUP][SUB]
Relations
[/SUB][/SUP]

[sub]L U T H O R A R R Y N[/sub] While his elder son had been sent to Seagard to serve under Lord Artys Mallister, Davos Baratheon sent Lyonel to the Vale of Arryn to become the squire of Morton Arryn, then heir to the Eyrie. Once there, the young Baratheon became fast friends with Morton's younger brother, Luthor. Though they had many adventures together as youths, Lyonel remembers Luthor most fondly for introducing and even organizing his eventually marriage to his wife, Rylene Redfort. As such, Luthor Arryn is the closest friend Lyonel has ever had, and they have maintained regular correspondence throughout the years. After a failed attempt on Luthor's life, Lyonel took in his sole heir, Jasper, as a ward. [sub]L O R O N G R E Y J O Y[/sub] All but unknown to Lyonel prior to the Stepstones Rebellion, the Lord Reaper of Pyke acted as the other figurehead of the conflict, and the two coordinated their forces to great effect during the Reclamation of Bloodstone. Years later, Lyonel was invited to join the Small Council as Master of Laws due in no small part to a recommendation from Loron. As colleagues, the two grew to mutually respect each other's competence. To Lyonel, Loron was the closest thing he had to a friend on the Council, and often felt they were the only two truly attempting to keep the realm together. After his suggestion of commencing a Great Council and the subsequent dismissal of said idea, Lyonel is unsure where he and Loron stand, especially with his former comrade's son attempts to woe Queen Daenerys' adopted daughter. [sub]S E R E N E I T A R G A R Y E N[/sub] Contrary to current events, the Lord of Storm's End holds no personal ill will towards Daenerys I's adopted daughter. Having known the girl since her arrival in Westeros, Lyonel has often tried to impart his wisdom to Serenei during their shared time on the Small Council. Both before and after his attempt to persuade his colleagues to call a Great Council, Lyonel attempted to explain his viewpoint to the potential Queen; that no precedent existed for Serenei's ascension to the crown, and that it would most likely be up to the lords of the realm to decide who sat the Iron Throne once Queen Daenerys passed on. To be a Queen, one must have allies, and Lyonel could be one of the few high lords willing to accept the former orphan as his Queen, if the Council deems her worthy. However, the Baratheons have their own claim on the Iron Throne, and duty may compell Lyonel to press this claim in the very near future.

S e r A x e l B a r a t h e o n
Anointed Knight Heir to Storm's End
[SUP][SUB]
Age
[/SUB][/SUP]

24

[SUP][SUB]
Reputation
[/SUB][/SUP]

Field

[SUP][SUB]
Relations
[/SUB][/SUP]

Field

Subject to change
