Yami had looked to Kaiba with gratitude though sadly, Yami didn't have any light nor fire based monsters but those of other types. Joey had gone looking through his deck to find something for Yugi and though Yami knew that Yugi had the Winged Dragon of Ra, it would be safe not to summon unless they were needed. This was why Yami didnt choose Slifer off the bat.
