Her head was throbbing dully as she followed the guard’s directions towards… Wimberton? No, no, the Whitley Building, she corrected herself. Admittedly, she hadn’t traveled very far. It wasn’t a long journey from Craigallian, Glasgow to R E D A C T E D but it still hadn’t been a piece of cake. She had managed to change before arriving at R E D A C T E D so she was feeling a bit better. Dressed in a cargo green jacket, simple black tank, faded blue jeans and Angel’s combat boots, Kat felt comfortable but most importantly clean. Her fingers tapped an erratic pattern on the strap of her backpack as she wound her way towards her house for this year. She was here. In S.P.I.G.A. After years of waiting and watching the rest of her siblings leave and come back stronger, and more confident it was finally her turn. She was 5 and hounding 16-year old Matías to put on his uniform and tell her stories about his school. She was 10 and bugging freshman Ángel and Elena about their classes and missions. She had grown up hearing her siblings tell stories about their time at S.P.I.G.A and always picturing herself here. Well, not here exactly, she thought as she turned a corner and nearly crashed into a stone face. So much for elegance and spy-like grace. Even with all the stories and all the information she had loaded up about S.P.I.G.A she knew that it could all be different. The competition was intense here, with all the students competing to be the best. But Kat’s true competition lay only in herself. She wasn’t here to be #1 (her siblings had often taken that role), no, she was only here to get better. She knew she had a lot to work on, and she knew she could do it. And although making friends would be great, considering the fact that she’d probably be with these people for the next four years, she had her goal and she had to achieve it. Making her way past that spot she had nearly crashed face-first into, she found the door to Whitley Building. Taking a moment to tighten her ponytail and push the fly-away hairs behind her ears, Kat shoved the door open. The deceptively heavy wooden door opened soundlessly, and saw the living room where 3 people were sitting and quietly conversing. An Asian guy and an Asian girl sat on one end of the couch while an American or British guy sat on the other side. “Hi! My name’s Kat. What are your names and where do you come from?” Sending them a bright smile she plopped into a comfy armchair across from the trio. One of the things she was most looking forward to was meeting other spy kids from all over the world and getting to know more about their cultures and learning from them. With only her backpack, as one of the guards had mentioned that their suitcases would be delivered to them, she carefully placed it to one side as she started chatting with them. She couldn’t wait to see who else would show up.
