They are the most powerful house in the Vale, and most likely the most powerful when it comes to military strength north of King’s Landing due to the fact they did not engage in many of the wars following the death of Robert Baratheon. Of their historic military strength of 40,000 they probably are still within the 25,000 to 35,000 range of callable men and women.
Head of House
Lord Paramount Robert “Sweetrobin” Arryn
Seat
The Eyrie
Demesne
House Arryn has been the reigning rulers of the Vale since they conquered it and deposed the petty kings with a combination of faith and determination. [/sub]
Recent History
What has occured in your house's history in recent years?
Realm Relations
House Baratheon Robert was surprised by the kindness of Daenerys when it came to the surviving Baratheons. He had little contact with Edric and little trade endeavors with the Stormlands for many years. When Lord Paramount Davos Baratheon arrived personally to negotiate a binding agreement, Robert found himself curious. Davos’ words were convincing and in the end Davos sent his daughter, Serina, to The Eyrie to serve as a cupbearer until she came of age to wed Robert’s grandson. Additionally, Robert suggested his grandson, Gunthor, serve as Davos’ squire. It’d create lasting bonds between the two houses. House Stark Robert and Rickon had a good relationship, though certain other members of the surviving Stark dynasty had conflicted feelings about Robert. Robert and his advisers were careful to not overspend when it came to aid for the scattered, starving, and surviving northmen, but that’s not to say they refused to contribute. As they helped at The Twins to fend off The Others, for most of Rickon’s reign, Robert saw to it that he gave appropriate levels of relief under the one condition that none of his food or gold would go to The Night’s Watch or The Wall. As far as the valemen were concerned, The Wall did not defend against The Others as it was historically supposed to and there was no need to rebuild it in the shadow of their victory. This caused some friction, but as Daenerys grew distant Rickon grew desperate, and if there’s anything Petyr Baelish taught Robin it was desperation equals opportunity. House Tully If not for Harrenhal, perhaps House Tully and House Arryn would be the strongest relationship in the entire realm. When Robert and Edmure fought over the ownership of Harrenhal it resulted in an accursed, sour coexistence that had to be negotiated by the Hand of the Queen many moons ago. When Edmure died, Robert celebrated his death with a party. If both houses are to have a productive relations going forward they would need to bury the hatchet, but given that Robert’s continued intent to besmirch Edmure’s name, it’s likely any positive relationship won’t occur until the old falcon passes on to the next world.
Storyline Premise
As one of the few reigning survivors of the War of Five Kings and the War against the Dawn, Robert Arryn sits as a curious testament to defying expectations. But much like Daenerys, Robert is growing near his end and murmurs exist in his court about how many years he can properly adjudicate the lords of the Vale and repel the ever-hungry hill clansmen who continue to serve as an issue for all who travel in the highlands and foothills of the region. Robert’s historic disinterest in the court of King’s Landing and the squabbling of the crownlander politicians has painted him as a unlikely ally, but some individuals of note have held onto hope that Robert Arryn (or his heirs) are the answer to their troubles. At a tournament celebrating Robert's eighty-seventh birthday a lot of things begin to spin.

Character Information

Identity
Lord Paramount Robert “Sweetrobin” Arryn
Age
87
Role
Lord Paramount of the Vale Lord of the Eyrie Protector of the Vale Warden of the East
Characterization
A lot has changed since Robert’s youth where he was considered a sickly, rude, and irrelevant child. His distant kinsman Harold Arryn thought little of him and many of his court during his childhood expected him to die. But as Robert would tell you now – the gods had decided different things for him. By the time he was two decades removed from his birth, Robert had taken to archery and study under the guidance of Yohn Royce and other significant courtiers that became new parental figures for him. The subterfuge by Petyr Baelish had eventually been revealed to him and Harrenhal had been ripped from his hands as well as his life. His claim of Harrenhal by right had painted him as a young man unable to negotiate or as Edmure Tully painted it; “a greedy little shit”. Eventually the matter was settled that it reverted to the crown until both could “play nice” which eventually led to the crown appointing a delegate of their choice who would serve the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Due to this outcome Robert and Edmure would have an awkward and rigid relationship throughout Edmure's reign of the Riverlands. Their disdain was so extreme that Robert held a party on the day his uncle died. This speaks to the bluntness, tactless, and harsh perception of Robert for his early reign. This aside, Robert was perceived by valemen as a surprisingly good and effective ruler. Robert made sure his people were never in danger nor involved in petty external conflicts, choosing to be mindful of managing his resources. He despised banditry and the hill clansmen and made sure that anybody who broke his laws suffered for their crimes. This hard line rule of authority and Robert’s lack of frivilolity beyond his own temperament showed that the unlikely falcon was the best option for the Vale. Though, some of his kinsman still tried to spread rumors and plot against him in their own plot to conquer The Eyrie; a foolish endeavor that led to their deaths by moon door. When it came to realm politics, Robert was exceptionally apathetic towards Daenerys’s reformist policies as they didn’t really affect him or his line; he cared not if a daughter or son would inherit. The only efforts he did to support the queen was when he decided to punish his vassals for conspiring against the Queen, to which instead of sending them through the moon door he sent them in caravan to King’s Landing. This would be the extent of Daenerys and Robert’s relationship as Robert would decline the position of Hand of the Queen in 346 AC. This made Daenerys admittedly disappointed, but she was glad to have an ally like Robert none-the-same. After all, Daenerys had long since been lacking in true, authentic allies. Thirty-eight years later and Robert is known for a few principled traits: authority, bluntness, lawfulness, and sternness.
Attributes & Talents
Robert was once a capable archer (albeit an underwhelming one) and currently walks with a cane to support his weakness in his legs. His skills rely entirely in his rulership capabilities and the respect afforded to him by his most loyal of subjects and friends.
