[@Goliah] (Well I figured someone would say it was a little too long for it's own good or something, there's certainly other flaws about the song itself.) But it's certainly fair enough to be annoyed at lyrical content and it sounding hollow to you. (He is sort of someone in his 30's portraying things to be about his 20's.) Though the idea of specifically white people merely talking about overcoming odds, not being a possible/realistic outcome for you, is a particular view I certainly don't agree with. (But this is a music thread. So I'll leave it at that.) Though I don't like people protesting in songs either, usually for the reason of if it sounding more bitter and preachy. Some bands can be so good at writing catchy tunes it doesn't matter, like Rise Against's older material. But "I'm oppressed, feel my pain." song's are often annoying when they're purposefully selective or pandering to a particular group. Like you aren't trying to make catchy/good music for anyone to enjoy, you're doing something to be someone's moral better. Well, I'd say if any song was pandering, that one ticked off a lot of boxes in quick succession. (you can tell it's an older song or skinny wouldn't be apart of that list, at the very least.) Even mentioned the man closing their frat house and wanting to start a war, certainly a modern college song. But lyrically I've certainly heard worse. Instrumental was decent and it had a decent melody, though was a little too short to get into it all the same. 5.5/10 (Incidentally, also a song from 2008. Also I find the idea of a song not being good, solely because they didn't experience such things make it a little harder for concept albums, my favorite thing ever, to work as well as they do.)
