I think the biggest challenge with giving credit where it is due is that due to the amount of re-uploads it can be difficult to trace it back down. I should spend time trying to track down the source of an image and give it proper credit by linking back to the source, but I can understand why it can be challenging to do so for many; though some people being apathetic and entitled is a different problem in itself. How do you properly source something if you don't have a source? But if we as a community best try to be considerate, I think we can minimize the damage we are doing to our visual peers. As for what the moderation staff should do? Most role-playing communities have rules on plagiarism and visual appropriation. I think we should follow in that stead, though not completely disallow art use at the same time. When an artist contacts the staff, the staff should investigate and validate their claim, and see if a compromise can be done before editing the image out by their request. It’s easy to say “well they’re dumb for uploading it”. It’s easy to handwaive it being not our problem. Sometimes being an adult isn't easy.
