His skin tone is a mild pale and his dark brown hair is short with an evident widow's peak, parted from the center. His hair is, for the most part, well kept, and his beard trimmed; the facial hair above his lip and on his chin do not connect, leaving space below the ends of his lips. Like most Bretons, his ears are slightly pointed. Belrand's eyes are blue with a mild tinge of green. Belrand usually keeps a rather clean appearance, with no scars or any sort of grit that would tarnish his appearance. His slightly haggard appearance makes him appear as if he is constantly depressed, with sunken cheeks and a pointed chin. In most casual circumstances, Belrand would wear regular belted tunics, though usually of good quality, with thinner threads and fabric and more vibrant colors. [b]Equipment:[/b][list] [*][i]Enchanted Robes:[/i] Belrand wears a set of scarlet colored hooded robes for most situations. Inside is a brown shirt with a low buttoned collar and white banded sleeves past the elbow, while outside is his robes, the left side crossing over the right and fastened together by a cloth belt at the waist. Below it, the ends of the robes spread apart, revealing his white cloth leggings. Additionally, a leather belt with various pouches is wrapped outside of his cloth belt where he can easily pull out his dagger or a few emergency potions. The robes also seem to be enchanted, allowing him to regain magical energy far more quickly than he normally can and improving certain spells. It is also unable to burn under fire like regular cloth does. [*][i]Boots:[/i] Regular leather boots with no protective purpose, simply to protect against the elements and maintain its quality through long treks. [*][i]Knapsack:[/i] He also carries around a knapsack around his back, where he stores essential objects during his travels. It has a front pouch to place smaller objects with, and a bedroll wrapped right below it in case he needs to sleep outside. [*][i]Bedroll:[/i] A simple bedroll with a woven leather and fur layer on it to protect the person from exposure to the elements. It also includes a roll of wolf pelts woven together in blocks, large enough to serve as a single-person tent. [*][i]Orcish Dagger:[/i] As the Orsimer have frequently settled in the border-lands between High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim, these weapons are not particularly difficult to come by, and is frequently found in the hands of blacksmiths and merchants. It is slightly heavier than a steel dagger due to orichalcum being denser than steel. It is also incredibly durable, and requires little maintenance. Belrand uses this as a backup weapon in case things get ugly, though its durability and small size also makes it ideal for survival situations or other purposes.[/list] [b]Inventory:[/b][list] [*][i]Coin Purse:[/i] Has about 70 or so septims in it, in case he needs to stay at an tavern or buy some food and water. As theft is a very real possibility during his travels, Belrand usually doesn't keep a large amount of septims at one time, and usually trades some items he has obtained to get more coin when he needs it. [*][i]Iron tankard and canteen:[/i] A round canteen for storing water and an iron tankard in case he wants to cook up a stew or pour some wine. It is usually kept dry to prevent it from rusting. [*][i]Logbook with quill/inkwell:[/i] A blank book with a leather cover to write Belrand's logs, along with a quill and an inkwell with a secure lid to prevent leakage. There is also a small quill knife in case the quill needs to be sharpened. [*][i]2920, The Last Year of the First Era:[/i] One of Belrand's favorite book series, a historical drama written by the renowned Carlovac Townway. He usually keeps a book or two with him to read along the road, trading it in for a newer series of the book across the land. [*][i]Several potions:[/i] Small potions which Belrand keeps for emergencies when he needs a quick fix. He carries a few health and magicka potions, along with a potion of cure disease. [*][i]Random rations:[/i] Dried or cured meats, nuts, bread, and vegatables, enough to last a few days. [*][i]Map of Northern Tamriel:[/i] Includes the regions of High Rock, Hammerfell, Skyrim, and Morrowind. A folded paper map, with all town and city locations. There is also plenty of blank space to write in new locations that Belrand happens to pass through or hear through rumor.[/list] [b]Spell List:[/b][list] [*][i]Firebolt:[/i] A blast of fire more powerful than the standard Flames spell. [*][i]Fireball:[/i] Much more damaging than Firebolt, Fireball is a large gout of fire that explodes on impact. [*][i]Flame Cloak:[/i] Belrand surrounds himself in fire, burning those who come too close. [*][i]Magelight:[/i] A basic Alteration spell that simply shoots a ball of light, used to illuminate dark areas. [*][i]Fast Healing:[/i] Accelerates the body's self-healing function. Useful for small wounds. [*][i]Bound Sword:[/i] Temporarily creates an ethereal sword to use in combat. [*][i]Conjure Flame Atronach:[/i] Temporarily summons a fiery atronach to assist the user in battle. While physically weak, it is versatile and deadly.[/list] [b]History:[/b] As the Iliac Bay narrows to the Bjoulsae River, the city of Evermore lay next to it. It was a bustling city, similar to its neighboring city Wayrest, prosperous and beautiful. Hidden behind its outward appearance, however, was a history of strife; nestled between the Reach and with Hammerfall just across the Bangkorai Pass, Evermore was frequently the center of conflict between the Reachmen, Bretons, Nords, Redguards, sometimes even the Orsimer. This is where Erwan Belrand was born, into a well-off family in the streets of Evermore. Second-born child to Corenan, a high ranking wizard in the Mage's Guild, and Gwenet, a woman of more modest backgrounds, who worked as a banker in the city's treasury. Their family was small, with Belrand only having one younger sibling five years younger, Jafre. There were other Belrands living in other places like Markarth or Fharun, though Erwan has yet to meet most of his extended family. Being the elder sibling of the family, Erwan was immediately trained when he was able to learn arithmetic and reading, and near the age of ten, history and geography. This was all to prepare him the basics before training in the arcane arts. Erwan was always interested in dabbling with magic, but at a young age he felt like he was being sheltered. He had rarely stepped outside the walls of Evermore. He may have remembered the name of every city, or history from the First Era, but the world around him felt smaller than it is. As he just went into his teenage years, he was able to cast basic spells, which drew praise from his elders and family. It seemed like he would follow under his father's footsteps, but to Erwan, all he wanted to do was escape from the shadow of his father so he didn't have to live up to everyone's high expectations. While he didn't dislike his father, he would do anything to stay out of his way so he could avoid the embarassment and pressure that would ensue. Then one day, another fellow wizard arrived at the Mage's Guild, a non-native. The Bosmer went by the name Lunethil, hailing from beyond the mountains to the east. An opportunity suddenly rose in front of the fifteen year old's eyes, and under the reason of studying under another scholar, he was able to leave the city under Lunethil's arm. The wizard from Skyrim also saw something in Belrand, and so they headed northeast away from the familiar river valleys of Bangkorai. He arrived at Solitude, an entirely different place from the quiet life at Evermore. Majestic and grand, the metropolis was built on a tall arch above the end of the Karth River. There, Belrand worked in one of the libraries where Lunethil did historical research – the older wizard mostly worked in cataloging Third Era history, from Tiber Septim's reign to the War of the Red Diamond to more recent events. Aside from his main studies, Belrand would sometimes train with him to improve his magical skills. At eighteen, he was a capable mage by his own right, and was slowly becoming less and less of an apprentice under Lunethil's wing. He began to look into his own arcane studies instead of simply dabbling with old, dusty books. During his years in Lunethil's library, he also learned a little here and there about bartering and making deals, as he soon noticed that out of the populated Nord city, there were still plenty of people willing to buy some spellbooks and scrolls here or just plain regular books to read at home. Despite all this, however, Belrand's life was rather lonely. He had little interest in a loving relationship with any woman he came across, and usually did not interact with the citizens much. Months eventually became years, relatively uneventful besides from the letters he sent back home on a regular basis. When he was in his mid twenties, he had gained information from a letter that his younger brother had already set eyes on another Breton woman back in Evermore. It felt like everyone was moving on, while his life lacked the purpose and excitement it needed. At 27, however, something rather expected occurred, as one day, when he returned to the library after a short expedition down to the city of Markarth, he had an unusual feeling when he entered, with the library's normal patrons gone and the lights dimmed. When he came upstairs to his old instructor's room, however, he found him sleeping in his bed, sickly and dying. It came as a shock to Belrand – before, Lunethil had acted well and healthy, even keeping up that facade through letters he was given while Belrand was still in Markarth. While Lunethil too weak to speak, a letter on his bedroom desk acted as his last words before his passing. "Don't stay here wasting your years. You should leave and find your own path, rather than spend your time here where I would only serve as a constant reminder. I left some items in a chest for you to take for your journey, wherever you go. Farewell, my former pupil." A few days later, Lunethil passed away. Belrand participated in his mourning as a quiet bystander, where his late mentor was sent into the catacombs to finally rest in peace. Eventually, he packed his belongings as the library was given to another person he knew little about, only that he was Lunethil's friend. And so he embarked off, towards Hammerfell, where he would remain for the next five years. He remained in Dragonstar for the first three, where he sometimes returned back to his hometown of Evermore to see how his family was doing. His younger brother, Jafre, had already started a family of his own. He had also heard of some rumors, from the internal conflict the Empire after a succession dispute to the deeds of the mysterious "Camoran Usurper" far south in Valenwood. Those things concerned him little, being issues so distant from where he resided. Eventually, he found his way to Skaven. Surprisingly, Skaven lacked a Mage's Guild there, and he ended up serving as spellsword and a small advisor to the Dragonstar Caravan Company. He wondered how he went from an aspiring mage to doing rough work on the road. He hoped to make some coin and learn some experience before he could return back to Evermore where he could perhaps settle down and return to the Mage's Guild there, or even work under the nobility. That was all interrupted, however, when on the road east towards Elinhir, he was suddenly ambushed by mercenaries who pledged under this "Usurper". Instead of being killed or robbed on the spot, however, he was captured alive. Belrand wasn't sure if the gods have favored him that day, but now he had to figure out a way to escape... [b]Personality:[/b] Belrand is a cool-headed person, usually keeping a calm mind in dire situations. He has the capability to think quickly and decisively, never dilly dallying. However, his decisiveness often becomes inflexibility, ignoring what others think. Partially fueled by his intellect, Belrand is somewhat conceited towards others, which proves to be his flaw in socialization,as he may unintentionally suggest that his word is superior and others are below him. Despite his insufferableness, Belrand genuinely does not want to seek confrontation. He is simply too accustomed to an scholarly and formerly affluent lifestyle, never needing anything and for many years, studying idly indoors. He also lacks serious religious commitment; while most of his family usually worshipped the local pantheon of gods, from Magnus to Julianos to Zenithar, Belrand seems to be affixed to the words in his books. He also has an interest in history in general, and would not forget to mention to others his knowledge of certain fields. While prideful, Belrand is not blind to acknowledge someone who holds more wisdom or ability than he does, and follows them with some respect. While interacting with others, Belrand talks with a flat and sometimes sarcastic tone. He claims to have a "refined" taste, as he prefers to drink pricier alcohol instead of the common Hammerfell rum, and generally spends more coin to sate his appetite. Belrand also follows a sort of routine, as he likes to write in his logbook in a daily basis and eat his meals at around the same time. [b]Skills:[/b] [color=00FFFF]Conjuration[/color]: 2. While necromancy and other dark arts are part of the Conjuration school, leading to some of its mixed reputation, Conjuration is seen as a perfectly acceptable class of magic in High Rock. Belrand was taught at a young age in the arts of Conjuration. He is able to create weapons by tapping into soul energy, though he generally favors a sword or dagger as he lacks proficiency in archery or two-handed weapons. He can also summon fire or frost atronachs to assist him in battle. [color=00FFFF]Destruction:[/color] 2. While Belrand can use all three elements, he mostly favors fire. He doesn't use runes too often, however, but shows much proficiency and control over his elements, even being able to create a burning cloak around himself with enough focus. [color=00FFFF]Restoration:[/color] 1. Being an all around mage, Belrand also knows a few restoration spells to quickly heal light physical wounds. He can also set up some basic wards, though he isn't nearly skilled enough to rely on them often, if at all. [color=0BDA51]Speech:[/color] 1.
